Pride & Prejudice & Northanger Abbey (DVD)

This is my favorite adaptation of pride and prejudice. Not so short that it skips important details.

Beware the Pride and Prejudice DVD does not work and doesn't match what is on the outside of the box. The Northanger Abbey DVD has a photo on it and it says Disc 2 and is dated 2015 It looks new. The P and P one is an older DVD with no picture on it [no mention of being disc 1] and is dated 2004. It's the old two sided style that didn't work properly when I bought that version years ago. It looks like they just inserted an old DVD loosely into the box with the Northanger Abbey DVD. Very disappointed that Amazon did this. I expected two new remastered DVDs. The Pride And Prejudice DVD is junk. It wouldn't even load onto the player when I tried to play it. I am returning them.It's a shame because this version of Pride and Prejudice is the best one of all. It stays closest to Jane Austen's work and text without any of the innovations that later versions invented to make the story more 'modern'. It's also much more faithful to 18th century behaviour than later versions with boisterous characters constantly running around - or Darcy jumping into his pond as they bizarrely did in the Firth one.

I love every Jane Austen story that I've seen turned into mini series or movie form. I admit that I have not yet read any of the novels but I intend to. That being said I totally love every version of Pride and Prejudice, and this is no exception. I think it was done quite well. Wish it could be purchased in found in Hi Def. I purchased this DVD but it doesn't work properly . . . most unfortunate for me. Still I love it and will watch it over and over again. Jane finds ways to really show us the women of her times, the highs and lows of being female and with such insight. I love her work. I am very grateful that I did not live in that time having little or no power concerning anything.

Bought as a gift for my husband as he likes to own the actual media. Disappointed that both sides skipped and stalled. Returning. Otherwise, a charming version of the classic novel with a vintage mood.

This is my favorite version of Pride and Prejudice. Most people like the Keira Knightly version, but I prefer this version. Northanger Abbey was nice to watch as well. However, I like another version of that better.

First let me say this rating has nothing to do with the fabulous stories or actors and actresses who performed in these DVDs. The quality of the playback of the DVD is what I base this rating on. The recording of Pride and Prejudice episode 3 is completely problematic- it skips, freezes and then eventually does not play at all. I tested it out on three different DVD players and the same result happened each time. I see that there are other customers who have experienced the same problem so I believe it to be something inherent to the reproduction of this merchandise. Amazon gets a five star rating for returns and refund. I would caution others to this defect that seems to be indicative of more than one customer's experience.

This is well done version of Pride and Prejudice. Good acting, good photography, fairly true to the book. The father seems to be made a little nastier than appropriate--not just whimsical and absorbed in his own world as in the book. Other individuals seem very true to character and well-played. (It doesn't detract a lot over all.) I've watched it a number of times and always enjoy it. I would definitely recommend it. I also have A&E which is lovely, so if I like this a lot, that's really saying something good about the BBC production as well.

I had bought this through my BBC catalog and had to send it back three times. On the last return I had to relinquish the Pride and Prejudice DVD. AS all those discs and this ONE skips at chapter 3- going straight to chapter 4. From my phone conversations with the BBC they were just becoming aware of the malfunctions in the production run of this disc. This disc DID NOT come with any return information. SHAME on this seller. This is my most favorite book and the parts that are missing is one of the best parts of the story- Lizzy going into Kent for the first time /Darcy purposes the etc. Then you turn the disc over and no problems.

I've always wanted to get the DVD of the 1980 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice because it keeps close to the details and plot of Austen's novel. This DVD is a welcome addition to my collection.

I'm disappointed to join the ranks of people who had to return the product because Pride & Prejudice episode 3 won't play. This was purchased as a gift to replace an existing DVD that had stopped working ... in the same episode. I tried having the replacement replaced, but it had the same problem. There was no obvious damage with either copy, so it appears that there's some consistent manufacturing defect. With regret, I've given up.
