Cornelia by Mima Maxey is a fun Latin story about the adventures of a young girl living in the United States in the early 1900's. A total of 554 words is used in the forty chapters. After the first lessons, each word is introduced in a setting that makes possible its interpretation by reading alone. Every word is repeated in three successive chapters and frequently in later chapters. The Latin becomes successively more difficult as the chapters progress (No subjunctive) This reader is intended for first year Latin students. The author says "One learns to read by reading. Material for reading in the early stages should be easy and repetitious, and should introduce new vocabulary in self-evident situations."This reprint by Facimile Publisherdistributed by Gyhan, is a quality hardcover book, with sewn binding, large dark print, it even has a dust cover!Cornelia is the "reader" intended to go with Maxey's "A New Latin Primer" (Facsmile please print this too :-)or "First Latin lessons" by Harry Fletcher Scott (this is harder 1,500 vocab) stops before subjunctive. Stories to read.Other Latin Readers in this style are"Carolus et Maria" by Marjories Fay (Vocab 588 words, chosen for their frequency in classical Latin."Julia" 800 words (no subjunctive?) by Maud Reed. Tales of Greece and Rome"Camilla" A Latin reading book for the Second Year by Maud Reed. Some gerunds and ut and si plus the subjunctive (vocab 1,300 words). These are Roman stories.Juliana; A Latin exercise book, (Elementary classics) 1962 by Maud Reed(these have not been reprinted YET).Lingua Latina Familia Romana is in the style of Maxey's Cornelia but Maxey adds vocabulary and new forms at a much slower pace (it's easier reading). (So this is a great reader to use with Familia Romana.
