Deceived Paperback – January 1, 2014

I usually stay clear of short stories because often I find them unfulfilling and usually get frustrated when I end up liking the characters only to have the story end abruptly. That wasn't the case with this book and its pairs of lovers.It's quite rare to have a series of stories, each with a different pair, and find all of them endearingly likable and sweet. Sure, I liked some pairs more than others (Benedict and Rae, Pierce and Silver), but there wasn't a pair I didn't like, which is saying something.The stories are set in what seems like Regency England. So if you like men in cravats falling in love with each other, you'll enjoy this bookEdited to add: If you liked Benedict and Rae, like I did, there are a bunch of extra (free) stories on the author's website (maderr.com) and also Silver and Pierce. They're all under Free Reads > Fic Bits :). I'm glad I found them because it showed glimpses into the happily ever after of these couples.

Pros: I love this author and her particular take on "Regency" settings. And the stories in this anthology are sweet and engaging.Cons: When I purchased this book in early March, there were 5 stories. Deceived, Scandalous, From Afar, Lessons, and The Highwayman. Now "The Highwayman" is it's own book (which it totally deserves) but isn't part of this anthology anymore. And this one has three additional stories in it: Seconds, The Wager, and Runaways. That's all well and good, except I never received any kind of book update to reflect these changes, but Amazon tells me I purchased THIS BOOK in early March. Even though what I purchased has both different stories in it AND entirely different cover art. So, what do I have to do, purchase a new copy of the this kindle book??? That makes no sense. At all.I am more than willing to purchase "The Highwayman" as a separate work, if Amazon updates the book I have to reflect the changes made to "Deceived".

I found this author through another of her works and have been quite speedily grabbing all her other works as a result. This was another treasure to read and to reread! There are five stories (plus a very small epilogue to a pair of side characters) within this book. All relate to each other and you will see the previous stories characters pop up in the next. The final story is the longest and most intricate of the lot but each are enjoyable and engaging stories. There is a fair amount of smut in the story, but is very tastefully done and does not detract from the story (as is oft to happen in this genre) but rather flows very romantically into the story. The author does a wonderful job of word building and keeping to a general plot, as well as getting you attached to each character.I recommend this book to anyone who wants a wonderful slip from reality into this realm of princes and highwayman and rakes whom meet there perfect match. Delightful from start to finish, as all the books I've read from this author have been.

If you enjoy Louisa Masters or AJ Sherwood, I highly recommend checking out this m/m romance. It’s between historical romance and fantasy romance

Am sorry to finish reading this book. These are all charming and set in long ago England when manners and wit mattered but being gay was of no import. That last makes it a bit of fantasy but doesn't detract from the charm.

The stories are so entertaining that I could and most definitely have spent all my resent time reading all I could find made by this author.

I really enjoyed this book... This is the fist book I've read of hers besides the "Prince of Blood series"... I will definitely be reading all her books now!! I am a fan Megan Derr

I liked them all - very nicely written with great endings - I liked how by the end of the last story everyone had their happy ever after ;)

I should just copy and paste all my reviews for this author's work, because it just stays so good.

A fun collection of short stories that I thoroughly enjoyed. My favourite is the first story about a Prince and his secretary, some laugh out loud scenes in that story. All in all a good read.

Wieder einmal sehr gute, sehr witzige und unglaublich süße Liebesgeschichten. Kann man immer wieder lesen^^ Es zeigt ihr Talent den Leser trotz der kurzen Geschichten so nah an die meist sympathischen MCs heranzubringen

Lessons is my favorite, these are all a good read.
