Very expensive way to save a few tomatoes if you're lucky.
My indoor plants got completely destroyed by chili thrips that I presume came in with fruit and veg. They strip every chloroplast of all plants, even thick waxy jade plants, and nothing kills them because the growers already tried all the pesticides you can buy. They are too small to see until it's too late. Nightmare. Even if you destroy all your plants and b aleach every surface, nook and cranny, and chuck out all the compost, as soon as any new plant pokes its head up, its green is systematically stripped off.First time I tried the Swirski mites, there weren't many in the sachets and I lost the plants. As above, I totally blitzed the house and started again the next year, but as soon as you think things are just getting nice and green, the leaves are suddenly looking floppy, and next thing they are full of windows where all the green is gone. I had no choice but to try again, and this time, there were so many mites that the box felt like it was covered in sand! They worked! But the thrips still came back the next year! I bought more sachets, but didn't notice any mites.Desperately, I tried getting cucurmis mites from another supplier. These were half the price and came in bigger sachets, but there were hardly any eggs inside, and I only found a moth in one. The supplier sent me more, but all that happened was that one sachet had so many they came out and ate the tip of a young amarylis leaf, but the others still has hardly any in.So I had to try the swirskii again, as i can't bear looking at plantless rooms! This time I seem to have had a bit more luck and tomatoes and peppers leafed up again, but I see thrips are stll there because nasturtium leaves. which the they seem to like best, always get stripped before getting to size. I use them as sacrificial plants now. :(Worst pest I ever had, apart from citrus scale, indoors, and squirrels, outdoors. At least the citrus scale stuck to citrus, but 'chili' thrips eat everything!
