Shovel

The handle where it attaches to the shovel comes apart too easy. So, it is not the best shovel for the ashes. The perfect ash shovel should be one piece.

Every ash shovel I've ever purchased was garbage so I was hopeful this thing would outperform past failures. It comes in two pieces and has to be screwed together, which made me hesitant, but after using this thing for a couple months it seems my worries were unfounded. We heat our house with wood only so we're constantly cleaning ash out of the woodstove and this shovel got plenty of use. I did put a bead of loctite on the screw which attaches the two pieces to keep it from wiggling loose and it's probably a good idea to get some if you are considering this shovel. Im going to buy the coal sifter to go along with it. A+

The folded edges are not spot welded at all and leak “Ash” out the back of the “Ash Dragon Shovel” where the handle section folds up. Not a great product but could be, if they would spot weld the folded edges together. My Ash Dragon Shovel was packed by Amazon without any packing, at all. The bends were mashed open during shipment and the sheetmetal had two small dings. It is okay for an Ash Shovel but it does leak “Ash” out the back of the shovel, if bumped and full of ash. What a deal~!

I got this shovel to work with my wood stove. Most shovels for this purpose are made of flimsy pot metal that cannot take the heat of the coals. I bought this one because the write up says the metal is heat tempered and resistant. This seems to be true. So far it has held up well. The only drawback is it is rather large, and does not easily fit in my stove.
