BodumChambord 8 Cup Shatterproof French Press Coffeemaker, Chrome, 1.0 liter, 34-Ounce

I bought this as a gift, based on the reputation of the brand, and some personal experience with other (cheaper) presses. I just visited the gift recipient, and got to see this press for the first time myself. How disappointing to see it in person! Overall it works fine, but the top & filter assembly is flimsy & cheap-feeling. The flask is nice with a good enough metal frame, but the top is cheap metallic-flash-coated plastic, and the fit of the lid is a little loose. It doesn't seal tight against the flask. The filter looks like a flimsy plastic assembly (maybe nylon?) - it may work OK, no idea about longevity, so neutral comments about that piece. However, the plunger is too long for the flask, and therefore when pushed all the way down flat against the grounds, it does not hold the top in place. That means during pouring you have to put your thumb on the (hot) lid, or else the lid will lift up about 1/4". This may not seem like such an issue, but that means the seal around the lid lifts up from the flask, and the coffee pours out the lip, but also around the lid near the lip, making an unruly waterfall of coffee, not a directed stream from the spout. Overall I am disappointed to see what I gave as a gift, having expected a higher quality item. I suppose this is the risk of buying a gift on line instead of directly from Macy's or some other retail establishment, where I could hold it in my hand before buying. If I could sneak it out of this house & return it I would. It just is not the quality object I had expected from this brand. It works, it's OK, so I cannot rate it any lower than "OK", but it definitely is a let-down from the nice glass-and-metal French press that I had expected, and I definitely cannot say "I love it". Functionally, my own 2 other cheaper French presses work better, even if they are not as elegant in appearance.

Don't get me wrong, the build quality of this little press (like most other Bodum products that I've used) is top-notch. But there are three things that I don't like about this one:1) It has a silicone rubber ring around the outside of the plastic-framed screen, unlike other products that are ALL metal.2) The carafe is made out of hard plastic, not glass. I realize that it says this in the description, but I only caught it after I received the product and went back to re-read it.3) Given the previous, I'd expect this item to ring in at around $20-$25, the price was just a little high for what it was.That said, I'd go back and spend a little extra money to get the one with the glass carafe and full metal plunger assembly.

Let me first say that I don't typically write reviews for products. Most products I purchase work as advertised and I never feel compelled. This french-press, however, does warrant an exception. While it IS advertised as shatterproof, that would be correct if you dropped it, slammed it, or otherwise tried to break it intentionally. It is not made of glass, it is made of plastic, so shatterproof it IS. On the other hand, if you do what you're supposed to do with this shatterproof material, which would be to add coffee grounds and hot water to it, the container will crack and leak due to the temperature differential between room temperature and the hot water. This is junk and I will be contacting Bodum for a replacement carafe, hopefully made of GLASS. I would gladly sacrifice break-ability for something that held up to hot water being poured into it. 2 stars only because it's worked fine for the last 6 months since I purchased it. It's become cooler out due to the weather changing and it seems this plastic composite just can't hold up.

I like coffee!I drink a lot of coffee!I’ve been using my Bodum shatterproof press for going on 2 years. I have had a few others and they always end up smashed either in the dishwasher or through my clumsiness. The replacement carafes cost almost as much as buying a new press.I use it about twice a week. Coffee responsibility in my house is shared between my Bodum press, a Bunn Phase Brew and a Farberware percolator (I love and would recommend all three). My Breville Café Roma espresso machine gets frequent action as well (also recommended).This thing still looks and works like the day it came out of the box. I just throw it is the dishwasher and not worry about breakage. It still looks good, works great and does exactly what it is supposed to do over the long haul. If I became separated from my Bodum Chambord shatterproof French press I would buy another in a heartbeat!

This product is great. However, I purchased it thinking it would make three AMERICAN size cups of coffee. However, a cup is only considered 3-4 ounces by this company, so it is significantly less than the 10 ounce cup that is used in the USA. Regardless, it makes a great cup of coffee. I am not a big coffee drinker and live alone, so one cup at a time is good enough for me. However, if you drink a lot of coffee or are making coffee for more than one person I would go for the larger size.

First of all, when I saw "shatterproof" I expected something like Pyrex glass so I was pretty disappointed to find that it is made from a plastic, not glass at all. No biggy, that's probably a lot on my bad judgement, but they don't clarify it really well at all.Secondly, it is NOT 8 cups based on standard measurements of 1 cup = 8 fl. oz. no. This thing only holds 4 standard cups of water, without room for the actual coffee. So, that is a huge false advertisement even though it does claim 34 ounces.Lastly, the top doesn't fit as snugly as the glass carafes and the plastic doesn't insulate as well as glass.All-in-all, it works fine, but I'd recommend a really well-made glass version instead.

I ordered this product but later replaced it with the glass version because the shatterproof model's plunger is "sticky", unlike the plunger used in the glass model.Because the plunger's edge seal is silicone, it sticks to the carafe when you reverse its direction. This caused the plunger to lift the carafe out of its holder in the model I received. (Your mileage may vary.)For me, the smooth mechanics of the glass version outweigh the shatterproof-ness of this model.

I used this daily for about 2 months and it worked great. Then one day as I was pouring hot water into the carafe to make my morning brew, I heard a snap and a large crack formed up the side and it now leaks, it's completely useless and needs to be thrown out or replaced. The description indicates that it is shatter proof, didn't get to test that out, but since the primary purpose is to make coffee, which requires hot water, I have to give it 1 star as it can't do that without breaking in the first 3 months. Waste of money, switching back to the glass version.

A la segunda vez que utilicé esta prensa francesa el vaso ha explotado con el calor de el agua. Tengo la misma presnsa francesa pero para 8 tazas, uso el agua a la misma temperatura y esto no había pasado nunca. Quisiera hacer valida mi garantía o solicitar un reembolso por favor.

El vaso es plástico y la mayoría de sus accesorios, lo cual no lo mencionan en a descripción y el instructivo menciona que el vaso es de vidrio y piezas en metal, FALSO. Definitivamente no la recomiendo.

Beautiful and it works, however, I expected the "cups" to be regular sized ones, it is too small for me.

En la descripción deberían de poner el tamaño, sería muy importante porque al llegar una muy chico a lo que yo necesitaba, lo tuve que devolver.
