Spicely Organic Horseradish Powder (1LB Bulk)

Horseradish, whose name may derive from "harsh radish", is a powerful spice with antibiotic properties. When I was a kid living in Seattle we had horseradish growing wild in our back yard. Every couple of months, my father would dig up a root, wash and peel it, and grind it up for use on meats. Fresh horseradish is powerful stuff. I became attached to its flavor and like to add a trace to sauces and gravies, as well as using it as a sandwich spread. But those little tiny bottles they sell in the supermarket are expensive. While not as fierce as the fresh horseradish, this powder does produce a slightly sweet product with a good bite to it. It is very enjoyable ... to me.

Horrible product. Had to give one star to review it, but it's not any stars!!! First of all, it had a bad smell and didn't taste right. Made a warm drink with it and had to pour it out. Bought it to use for a weight loss recipe I had. Threw the entire bag in the trash

I purchased this item to use in my fire cider as my most current batch did not have as much of a horseradish kick as I'd like. It does add a decent kick, but not the same as fresh grated. I did not get a bitter taste as some reviewers did but I did not use this for dip or food. It worked great for my needs. I did not get this product for free or reduced price.

This stuff is HOT and delicious.How to wake your horseradish powder up:Mix equal parts of horseradish powder and warm water (more or less water can be adjusted for your preferred consistency) and let sit at room temperature [covered] for at least 20 minutes for the enzymatic reaction to occur. Then, add your hot horseradish paste to any mayo or salad dressing for an extra kick.Remember, as with all powdered horseradish, you need to 'activate' this product first with water or it won't have any 'oompf'.

Very "hot"! Much more potent than the Kelchner's shredded product, which sold in refrigerated jars at my local supermarket.I like it in tomato juice with shredded fresh parsely.
