Our finnicky adolescent Belgian Malinois is very active and it's been tough to keep him at a healthy weight. This food has helped because of the higher calories but he's no more enthusiastic about eating it than any other type of kibble. I wish they had a "more yummy" formula. The highest calorie food in the world is useless if the dog won't eat it.The price went up about $10 between the first bag and the second. I might not buy again at this price. $2/pound is close to what I can get quality scraps from the local butcher and the dog is super enthusiastic about those and will eat cheap kibble mixed in with them.

My dog had began losing a lot of fur on her sides and on her neck. I could also see her ribs. I had experimented with some other dog food before and I switched to this one hoping that since it was high calorie and she is a high energy dog that it would help put some weight on her. She just ended up getting skinnier. I started making her food from scratch and all her fur came back and she's really filled out. Also my dog came into heat while on this food and she didn't bleed for an entire month. After I started making her food from scratch she started bleeding almost immediately. I had to add things to this food to get her to eat it. Either put some peanut butter in, or top it with some coconut oil, I even sprinkled some ramen noodle seasoning on it to get her to eat it. So I'm guessing it must not taste that good.

Not sure of the taste personally, but our dog eats it like its made of gold...Great ingredients, gluten free and great price

This food is a hidden gem among dog owners. I wish this were formulated for All Life Stages instead of Maintenance only. But for a high-calorie food that all the dogs have transitioned over beautifully. When I started mixing food, I noticed right away that poops got smaller. I like all the brands that are made by Ohio Pet Foods, Dr. Tim’s, Annamaet, and Blackwood. Dr. Gary’s formulas are higher calories and more meat-based than plant-based. Switching from Pro Plan Sport, I love this food. This is absolutely the best dog food I’ve ever seen. My veterinarian could not stop raving about Hakuna. She is a 2 year German Shepard. The veterinarian asks me what I was feeding. I told her it was Dr. Gary’s she never heard of it. She Immediately went to the internet and looked it up. She came back to the phone and said the food looked amazing and to continue to feed it. I use the working dog formula because she is a very active girl. I run her every day. So go on and get you some!!

Dogs went wild for this food, the gobbled it up. Really good quality ingredients with lots of fruit and veggies and glucosamine and says holistic. Comes in a small 4lb bag. Good to see if your dogs like it & to make sure it agrees with them. I do wish 1st ingredient was chicken, not chicken meal. The top ingredients are chicken meal, which is a concentrated form of chicken protein, and chicken fat, which provide cell building material and calories.The next ingredients are rice flour, oatmeal, brown rice, dried beet pulp, egg products and catfish meal. These build on the calories and animal proteins of the first two ingredients.This has an unusual proportion of crude protein (at least 24 percent) to crude fat (22 percent). The typical ratio is 2-to-1, not the nearly 1-to-1 seen here. This would not be appropriate for a house dog, but should work for a dog that runs off a lot of energy. My dog runs outside all day, and will share this bag with his sister, who not only runs but perches on logs nimbly and tears around even more. She is a bit too lean and I will try this to get her a bit more weight on her. Both dogs love this flavor.

I have 5 large breed working dogs, and they really work. My dogs do dock diving, agility, IPO, AKC obedience etc. In addition to the dog sports my dogs do they hike in the desert/mountains a few times a week and swim at home and run our acreage daily. It can be really difficult to keep weight on these dogs, they become really thin even when I feed them 6 cups of dog food per day!. I'm super excited to have a new option to help put weight on my working dogs, this is great. My dogs all love this food, they eat it right up. I have had not stomach upset with this food, no diarrhea. I highly recommend this food if you have an extremely active dog that has difficulty maintaining weight, this will do the trick. Also, some intact male dogs are extremely picky with their food and stay really thin, this food will help those dogs maintain weight. PS. this food is NOT for couch potato dogs, it will just make them fat. I do recommend this dog food, I will buy it again and I will recommend it to my dog sport friends.
