We love the butterfly cage! We have helped several caterpillars become butterflies with it and then let them fly away. Apparently, most caterpillars do not make the transition to butterflies in the wild due to predators etc., so this is good for butterfly conservation as well as for learning about butterflies!

I bought this when my kids were little, now for my grandson. It's an amazing nature project unfolding in your own home! Buy it! Kids love this stuff, and big kids love it too! I was SO excited to awake and have butterflies! Setting them free was also amazing!

Purchased this as birthday gift for a 6-year old family friend. She loved it! The delivery of the caterpillars was prompt and according to the schedule I requested. And all 5 for the caterpillars hatched! Such a great gift, and educational, too. I'll think of others to buy this for!

Of the 6 caterpillars we received, only one formed a chrysalis, and that one died before becoming a butterfly. We ordered a second batch. None of the second batch of 6 even made it to the chrysalis stage. There is nothing that the kit instructs you to do during the caterpillar and chrysalis stages (apart from keep them at room temp and out of direct sunlight), so there's nothing we could have done wrong. This kit seems to be a dud.

Took too long to get the butterfly larvae to put inn the cage.

Was cool for the entire family watch the metamorphosis of the butterfly!! I also purchased a caterpillar to butterfly book on amazon to go along with it to teach my daughter the phases, etc.

This is a bit misleading. It does come with a FREE certificate to redeem the butterflies. . .but for an additional cost of $9.50.

As a gift for my granddaughter, this was perfect!
