Big solid knife for people with big hands
I have lots of knives. I've been searching for years for the perfect under-$40 pocket knife. I love looking at the expensive knives, but can't justify the price for something that could get lost so easily (in reality, I've only lost one pocket knife when I was 12, but it was a traumatic experience because I loved that knife) and I intend to use my knives, not keep them shiny and pretty forever. This is not the perfect under-$40 knife, but it's pretty dang good. I bought this knife when it came up as a related item when I was buying a starter knife for my daughter. The octopus logo caught my eye and it looked like a nice size.My first impression upon receiving this knife was how solid and heavy it is. This is a good thing and a bad thing. It feels absolutely great in my hands, but heavy in the pocket. My previous everyday pocket knife was an Opinel #9, which is significantly lighter, but always felt a little weird in the pocket because of the unique Opinel shape. This knife slides into a pocket better (particularly on slim-fit jeans) but can definitely weigh down pants, particularly if they're a little loose around the waist.Upon closer inspection, there are some minor quality control issues. On my knife, there are some minor gaps between the wood scales and the metal body of the knife, but the scales themselves are attached securely, so this is an entirely cosmetic issue and in no way affects the use of the knife. The hinge was also a bit gritty on arrival, but a quick rinse and oil and everything is good. The blade was decently sharp on arrival and only required minor touch-up. There is a small amount of play in the blade when open, but nothing that makes me nervous or really affects the use of the knife. Basically, these are all relatively nit-picky issues and par for the course for a knife at this price point. I'm not taking any stars off for them because you're still getting a very solid knife for less than fifteen bucks. And it is a solid knife. I've got big hands (hence why I gravitate toward slightly larger knives like this and the Opinel #9) and this fits my hand darn near perfectly. Resistance to opening and unlocking is a bit on the high side, but if you've got hands big enough for this, you likely have the manual strength that it's not a problem. You certainly don't want this knife coming open accidentally.I've had this knife now for about 3 months and have been using it as my everyday knife pretty much exclusively. It's definitely overkill for things like opening packaging and such, but it's nice to have it for heavier-duty stuff. I was recently installing an electrical wall box in lath and plaster and at one point I needed to remove about half the width of a piece of lath. I just stabbed this knife in and twisted to break the lath, something I absolutely would not do with a thinner blade like my Opinel or Swiss Army knives. I don't mind abusing this knife a little bit, because it takes it and comes back for more. I'm sure the blade is pretty cheap steel, but it's thick enough that it doesn't really matter. It holds an edge decently enough. Cosmetically, the knife is fine after riding around in my pocket with my keys for a couple months. Lots of little light scratches on the metal as you'd expect, but the wood looks fine and the octopus logo is still clear (I think it's lasered on, but I'm not sure). All in all, an excellent knife for the price if you want a big, heavy knife.

Blue Ring Gear Brute Of A Knife!
This is a sturdy, beast of a folding knife. It feels great in your hand and has an excellent locking system. The Rosewood handle is beautiful and you can tell quality made. The blade came with a sharp edge from the factory. This is a hefty knife made for hard work and will no doubt last a life time. I love the Blue Ring Gear logo on the knife with the Squid, looks great! The knife come with a nylon sheath that is black and has belt loop. Can't go wrong with this brute.Beau SmithThe Flying Fist Ranch
