Product Description Based on a classic tale known the world over, JOSEPH: KING OF DREAMS is a stirring story of family and forgiveness. An inspiring musical adventure, JOSEPH: KING OF DREAMS retells the fascinating story of a boy whose extraordinary gift of seeing the future in his dreams sparks a deep division in his family. The jealousy of his brothers sends Joseph to faraway Egypt, where he is suddenly thrown into a world of high adventure, hidden intrigue and blossoming romance. In this new land, the Pharaoh enlists Joseph to interpret his royal dreams and save Egypt from disaster. Joseph is rewarded with honor and status, and as he rises to power, Joseph finds love and happiness. But when a sudden twist of fate reunites Joseph with his brothers, Joseph must face decisions of forgiveness. .com As the millennium turns, the crazed trend to produce direct-to-video sequels swells. Very few of these sequels are inspired, although most do not harm their origins. One might understandably pick up something labeled "from the makers of The Prince of Egypt with trepidation. Happily, the makers leave Moses alone and tell the tale of another Bible star, Joseph, known for his coat of many colors and a fantastic destiny. Joseph (voiced by Ben Affleck), his father's favorite son, is sold into slavery by his jealous half-brothers. After years of struggle, Joseph rises to be the Pharaoh's trusted adviser when his gift for interpreting dreams pays dividends. The 78-minute feature is rich in color and features several strong songs ("Better Than I" is the standout) written by newcomer John Bucchino. The film's religious elements are secondary, yet its heart is in the right spot--a most agreeable stance for a wider audience. Prince was designed as an "event" movie and suffered in the hype and marketing. With lower aims, Joseph is a more satisfying film and even invites the unexpected: we're ready for the next "sequel." --Doug Thomas

Review Dreamworks' family-oriented "Joseph" is a class act: both respectful and entertaining, with a gentle heart. Inspired by the Book of Genesis, not Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's ubiquitous rock 'n roll Broadway extravaganza, Dreamworks' new direct-to-video animated feature, "Joseph," is the saga of Jacob's favored son-he of the coat of many colors-who became the most powerful man in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. Ear-pleasing soft, pop-style songs blend seamlessly into the well-written script; the quality animation and 3-D imagery are fluid and at times, eye-popping; and the vocal talent, headed by Ben Affleck as Joseph, is aces. A wonderful family film!!! Classic Animation gem you might not have seen yet!
This is a pretty great DVD. It has a lot more special features than I was expecting for a one disc DVD. A lot of the special features are geared more towards smaller children with matching games, coloring sheets and activity sheets you can print, and a trivia game about the movie, all of which are interactive as a DVD-rom. It also has sing-alongs to every song in the film and a read-along with a narrator and brief clips from the film. I was most interested in the features for adults. They include the original trailer for the film, and long write-ups of the cast and crew bios. The best part was a commentary by the directors of two scenes from the film in their original versions and how they progressed to the final version. It was very interesting to learn how the movie came about and what went into its creation. If you are interested in behind the scenes information, the commentary is interesting to listen to and view. The movie also looks pretty great, and is a wonderful film for all ages. It's beautiful and I love the music; I was a little surprised it was a direct to DVD release because it's really good, unlike a lot of direct to DVDs. I wish they still made movies like this. I just discovered it though, so I was very pleased and found it a huge treat. It's very good and I think everyone who enjoyed the Prince of Egypt will like this. I actually liked it better, but that's just me perhaps.

I Liked It
It is impossible not to compare this to /Prince of Egypt/; however, if it were possible than it would become apparent that this is a very good film.Particularly for a DTV movie. The story diverges a bit from the source at the start and its portrait of Joseph is really not attractive -- but, of course, that's the point: from spoiled brat Joseph becomes the savior of his family (and of Egypt). And the recognition scene at the end is very powerful and effective.

Fabulous piece of art
In my personal opinion the prince of Egypt was really the crown jewel of this. Of DreamWorks films, but this one’s pretty great too. I love the colors and the storyline and I love how it helps tell a biblical story in a little bit new light so you can relate with it more. I also love that they tried to stick to as many historical facts as they could at the time of production, and the art style really is so lovely.

Beautiful
I loved it. It didn't accurately reflect the Biblical story but was close enough for me to watch it, and re-watch it more than once. I enjoyed the witty additions about Joseph and Osenath. It was a lovely romantic turn of the story. Great, clean production. Great work by everyone involved! Thank you for making this movie.

A wonderful story!
I think one should keep in mind that most of these straight to video movies are for children and that the things we find lacking in them as adults are really not so important as what our children may think of them. My daughter loves this movie. She asks to see it just about every day and I believe it's because she is drawn to the magnificent artwork. It is a great Bible story retold in a form that children can enjoy. As for the presence of God, He certainly was there when Joseph finally realizes that all he has suffered was a part of His plan. He tells his brothers that the evil they did, God turned into good. The music is not as memorable as "Prince of Egypt" but the songs "Better Than I" and "More Than You Take" are really beautiful and support the story. The vocal talents of Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) add to the enjoyment. If the next Bible story from Dreamworks is as good as "Joseph: King of Dreams", I will be looking forward to it.

If I had a DeLorean I would go back 1 hour and 14 minutes and find something productive to do.
This movie could have been so much better if they would have portrayed the true account of the circumstances surrounding Joseph's life. Because of all the changes it became mostly fiction which caused it to lose so many lessons that we can take away from reality.

Not biblical very disappointing.
Did not even mention God but maybe once. Just stick with the Word and stop trying to Disneyfy the Biblical Facts.

Enjoyable family viewing
My 3 year old granddaughter loves it. She would ask to watch this over and over. I enjoy watching this with her and feel that the producers have stayed close to the biblical story, with some small changes. There are two parts where I distract her, as I think it sounds violent where Joseph is in prison and explains a dream , the other part is at the end where Joseph takes a knife and stabs the bags of corn which the brothers were holding. There is also a part in the beginning where Joseph dreams of a wolf chasing him which I think could be scary for a child but my granddaughter is fine with that.

Lovely biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colours and the jealousy of his brothers who sold him in to slavery, because of God's love.
