Looking For A Book With Simple But Pretty Styles?
Look no further!!! This book has some great simple, pretty, styles!I was looking for something that would have styles I could easily do with my very thick hair on a regular basis, without a lot of fuss or extra products, but still have it look nice and "done" and feminine - not have it look like I just got out of bed.It has a good selection of "up" and let "down" do's (there's 40 styles all together)- so there are some for a more formal occasion, and some that would be good for every day. The styes are a series of braids, buns, and tails. Some of the styles are a little similar, but there are still many good ideas and do's! There's even some good advice in the front on taking care of hair that's not healthy, maintaining healthy hair, and how to grow it out if you can't seem to.If you're looking simply for an idea on how to do SOMEHTING different wiht your hair, I'd say this booklet is the best Amazon book you can get!Another thing that was #1 important to me was finding a book that I would feel good about having sitting around the house where my little brothers could possibly see it. I intend to encourage their respect for TRUE MODEST LADIES. There are no nasty model pictures in this hair book - or therefore, in this house.

For those with some exisiting hair skills.
I am slightly inept when it comes to my hair. I have a lot of hair, but not a lot of skill. I was excited to try this book as (unlike many of the books I considered) most of the styles are contemporary and feminine, and most seem adaptable to curly/wavy hair (thanks, Abby!). I also appreciated the mix of casual and dressy looks. The book did meet all of those expectations! I also felt the hair care tips included in the front of the book; I like the addition of the importance of hair care and maintenance in addition to styling. I also LOVED that ALL the images are full color images. Although I love my own (and others') dark hair, I think it's a huge positive that she has light hair to model; it's a little easier to note the depth/details/layers in images of light hair. And overall, the size of the book is good. Large enough to allow good image size, but not oversized and unwieldy.Styles are, unsurprisingly, geared toward long or medium-to-long hair. With the exception of a few images of children, the author appears to be the hair model for every style. However, I did have to deduct a star for two (sort of three) reasons.1.) The "Mane Reason" (my half-hearted apologies for the pun...) that I deducted the star was that this simply did not "start at the foundation" of every style. She presumes you already both know how to do a few braids and (more importantly, to me) know how to do them on your OWN head (I can French braid a friend's straight hair; however French braiding my own curly/wavy mess is way challenging). I think there should have been some space devoted particularly to those skills. As it was, I was lost time and again. Her website does help a bit with this. I would have liked TONS of tips on working with your own hair when it's hard to see what you're doing!2.) Not every step is shown in every style. This relates to the above, but I felt it worth mentioning individually. Styles are shown One Style to a page/One Page to a Style. So, the step-by-step process seems in places to be abbreviated. Perhaps this is a moment to speak to the publisher: add a few more pages if necessary.3.) I wish this came with spiral binding. That would make it more user friendly while styling.A bonus I did not expect: the books does include an access code for Abby's website tutorials.I would recommend this to anyone with a basic set of hair styling skills. Can you French Braid your own hair without cursing it? If yes, buy this book. If no, you may want to master than first. I think this is for "advanced beginners" and up. True clueless girls (like me!) will find it more challenging. If that's you, ask yourself how much effort you are willing to commit. If you're ready to apply yourself, buy it but realize you'll need to couple it with some help (from a friend or online). This book wont take you from zero.

Beautiful hairstyles; very difficult if you're a beginner
The hairstyles are great, don't get me wrong. There's a good mix of "trendy" and "wear-to-work." But I feel the need to warn buyers that a) this is NOT a book for beginners; and b) this ONLY has hairstyles for very long hair. If you're like me and can't french braid your own hair or have longish medium-length hair, don't waste the money. Maybe I'm just uniquely useless at hairstyling, but that's why I bought a book! The photos are close-ups so it's hard to figure out where the model is positioning her hands, and because most of them are in black and white it can be difficult to figure out the precise instructions (the photo quality could be better). I have tried several of the "easier" styles on myself (bohemian, braid-bun) with absolutely no success. If you have long hair and already have moderate hairstyling skill, you won't go wrong. But if your hair isn't six inches past your shoulders or you're just starting to experiment with your hair and struggling, this is only going to confound you.

Every Day Can Be An Excellent Hair Day!
This book has an excellent selection of hair styles from which to choose. The step-by-step pictures are very clear to follow. There is a nice range of "casual" and "formal" styles. The author's commentary is very warm and upbeat. None of the styles require expensive products or "gadgets". Bobby pins and hairspray are all you need to get started. I keep this book in my bedroom for easy reference while styling my hair. I was looking for a book on braiding hair, which this is; but, it also has nice "combo" styles with both braiding and letting the hair fall loose of twisting it up. This is well worth the price and a nice addition to your beauty book collection. The author also offers advice on caring for your hair and high end products you can purchase. Although they are not inexpensive, they last a long, long, time. A great book!

A Must Have Hair Book for Every Girl
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I showed my 7-year old Granddaughter who loved the pictures especially as she has long hair (lucky thing). Then i told my Hairdresser - she had bought a similar book to show my Granddaughter and I but it was not a patch on this one. My Hairdresser is now going to buy Abby Smith - The Ultimate Hairstyle Handbook as well.We cannot rate it highly enough, Superb pictures. Coloured and plain. Shows instructions clearly. Detailed, well written. Lots of hints and advice. Great styles for long hair (sadly mine is not). Not expensive for how much fun you can have with the styles in the book.I am not a Hair dresser but i give it 10/10 - It's Top Notch! Well done Abby Smith.
