Great quality compact backpack for 17.3 inch laptop.
I own a 17.3 inch HP Pavilion DV7 laptop and like many 17.3 inch laptop owners had a hard time finding a backpack to properly fit such a large notebook. My search has ended with this backpack. It is pretty much perfect for my use and it has a great new modern/professional look for Targus. I was looking for a backpack to commute between home and work that allowed me to keep my hands free for carrying other bags. I don't need a lot of storage space, just my 17.3 notebook, mouse, cables, ipod, accessories, business portfolio pad and an occasional binder or two of work documents. And it fits all of this perfectly.Laptop Fit:First off the laptop fits perfectly!! Finally!! After months of dealing with bags that were meant for a 17.0 notebook, I found one that fit a 17.3!! The rear most zipper compartment is pretty much dedicated for laptop storage and is VERY well padded. You may have just enough space to fit a couple of magazines along with the laptop. About 1 inch of the laptop stick out from the inner padded sleeve but the velcro strap securely fits and keeps it strapped in. There is plenty of room between the top of the laptop and the zipper, so nothing to worry about. In addition to the padded laptop sleeve the entire front panel of the laptop zipper compartment is padded to give extra protection from larger items in the middle zipper compartment from damaging the laptop.Build/Materials:This build and materials are great! I was sceptically with it being an "eco-friendly" bag with recycled materials used. To my surprise, I really think the materials have a very high quality look and feel. The materials have a matte type look, no shiny looking canvas here like some cheap backpacks. Also, it feels very sturdy with solid stitch seams. The hardware is nice too with a very tasteful understated green accent color and stitching. The bottom water resistant material seems very durable although it does not cover the bottom laptop portion of the bag. The shoulder pads are very comfortable with plenty of padding and good contouring. There is an integrated handle built into the top of the shoulder straps which is a nice bonus. Also, three nice pads built into the back panel of the pack give your back some cushion too.Only one concern is with the zipper. The zippers are very very smooth...almost too smooth when opening and closing. Now, they don't open by themselves but it doesn't take much effort to open the zippers. Maybe this is a sign of high quality zippers and I just don't know it.Size/Capacity:Size is perfect for me. I'm 5'10" and it feels very comfortable with a full load. It fits nice and close to my back so I haven't experience any real back fatigue.Capacity is perfect for me too. It may be small for some people though. Like I mentioned, the rear most compartment is pretty much dedicated to the laptop with maybe some room for a couple magazines. I actually have a slim wireless logitech keyboard that slides in there perfectly! The middle zipper is the main compartment which has a width of about 4 inches and gets narrower at the top. I can fit my leather portfolio pad and 2 1-inch binders in there perfectly. On the weekend, I can take that stuff out and fit my Canon rebel SLR in there with no problem along with a flash unit and accessories. The front zip panel is where the organizer pockets are and has plenty of room for pens, cell phone as well as a mouse, laptop power adapter and cables. The ipod pocket on the side, zip pocket on the front and bottle holder are all nice bonuses for me. The bottle holder is not your typical mesh bottle holder. It has a drawstring with a hardware tightener so this maybe able to accommodate other items if you are inventive.I hope this review has been helpful!

Great Backpack
This backpack (Targus Spruce EcoSmart for 15.6 Inch widescreen laptops) is truly great. Its compact in the best way, as it looks a bit small from the outside and then once you start opening it and loading it up with stuff you realize is roomier than it leads on. My HP ENVY 15 laptop (15.6 inch) fits quite nicely and feels secure. The backpack is really, truly comfortable to carry around. The padding in the back gives it a really nice feel and the shoulder straps are very nicely designed. The backpack seems to have a supreme built quality but at the same time remains light to carry. Carrying the aforementioned laptop, some papers, a book and a couple of personal items the back feels quite light on the back.Every single compartment seems to have been thoughtfully designed with the utmost functionality always in mind. There doesn't seem to be a wasted space in this thing.I can't stress how practical this backpack is and how well made it is enough. I also own a Targus XL Backpack which I bought for an 18.4 inch computer about 4 years ago. While I never found that backpack to be lacking, this one is head and shoulders a better made product, the build quality is truly great. The fabric made out of recycled plastic water bottles is of outstanding quality and it feels great to hold. Also the backpack is truly nice looking. I think it would be right at home in the hands of a corporate type as its elegant, but its not "boring" just as it is at home with me (a graduate Engineering student).Elegant, super practical, incredible build quality, spacious (for what's a genuinely compact backpack)...what's not to like? Highly recommended.

Great backpack with many compartments
This backpack is awesome for work, will hold a 15” laptop that is suspended, so it keeps it from getting damaged, and the side bottle holder is great for different sized containers. Has well placed zippered sections and pockets to keep things organized.

does the job.
Love the bag as well as 2 compartments for multiple laptops... and nice protective elevated bumper on the bottom. 17+ laptops fit with ease... good case if you need to carry more than 1 laptop.Hate the handle location., because of that handle it is uncomfortable to wear it as a backpack. if handle where it should be on top instead where it is then it would be a lot more comfortable and my to go for all future needs...

The perfect personal item on Spirit Air
Are you mad that Spirit Air is so cheap and then charges you 65 for a carry n each way? Yu should be. Not only that, while they give you a "PERSONAL" item, it is MUCH smaller than other airlines - like Delta. I recently flew to Atlanta on Delta, and then home on Spirit. I bought this Targus backpack to see if Spirit would let it through as a "PERSONAL" item. It does! It is the perfect size for a 17' laptop, two dress shirts, 2 pair of socks and undies, and the power brick. While I will never choose Spirit again willingly, I know I can get by without the extra $130 for a carryon. Highly recommend.
