it works
Finally found a mask for my Mini that stays on and protects her eyes from flies.

Not for young foals.
I ordered this for my foal born 5/2/22. This mask is like any other you've seen or used from Farnam. Also, you should know that the color you will receive is random... for some reason..... For the those two reasons, this mask is just fine. What I wish is that the mask were adjustable at the top AND bottom, (like another one used by a pony on the property). This foal-sized mask is more likely a weanling size, minimum. I am able to use it for training, but Ido not leave it on him because it is just not small enough.

Too much fleece ! If you are in a warm area
fits good, stays on sort of. If you are in a warm area, there is way too much fleece around the edges and they sweat right off the bat and then go to trying to rub it off.

Great Value
Not my first purchase of this brand. I keep returning for the value and quality. I purchased the foal size for one of our miniature donkeys. I included photos for those of you that also are shopping for your donkey. As you can see, there are some gaps but I don't believe they are large enough to cause problems.

Drastic change in design and fit!
Farnam redesigned these masks and I am going to assume the model they used was a plastic horse that does not itch or move. The black mask in the photos is the previous version of this mask in a FOAL size modeled by my 220 lb Size A mini horse who is 28 inches at the withers. The blue mask is the new version in the same Foal size. It is huge in all aspects of the design and comes down too low and touches the sensitive area around the nose which resulted in head shaking. I have always had to alter the foal size fly masks to fit the A size mini by putting in a Velcro adjustable latch at the crown, but this mask was too big everywhere and is more like a weanling size. Farnam use to make fly masks for minis and the A size fit him perfectly. I subsequently ordered another brand of mask since I can no longer use the Farnam masks on this horse. Luckily I have a 300 lb Size B mini I could use this mask on but I had to put darts in it at the cheek level to raise the Velcro throat latch because it is actually more of a CHIN LATCH and provides no resistance to its removal from the horse rubbing it on things. The only brands of fly masks that I have found to stay on any horse are the ones that have the latch under the cheek next to the throat and not further down. If the mask is extended down the face then they will need a throat and chin latch for it to stay on. It needs to be designed more like the support offered by a bridle or halter. I have been purchasing Farnam fly masks for almost 3 decades now and still have some that I purchased close to 30 years ago for the larger horses and they are still in usable shape, all the newer ones from the last 10 years get damaged more easily. The more time passes the worst the quality gets, typical corporate degradation of the manufacturing materials and process and unfortunately I spend a lot of time repairing and altering fly masks on 50 year old Japanese made all metal sewing machines or a 100 plus year old Wheeler and Wilson ex-treadle that was motorized, that is not technically an industrial machine but can handle multiple layers with ease and takes larger needles. Wish I could just buy a fly mask that fit and lasted like the vintage Farnams.

Does the job; not the most durable or comfortable
These don’t seem to last very long -they tear very easily on my mini pony. She is tough on masks but they don’t seem to last long on the others either. The problem when they tear is it has all this rough plastic that rubs against their faces. The one good thing is they run a little big and they’re loose fitting for small horses. Of course that means they come off easy. I buy these and the Dura mask. Dura mask seems to fit a little better but these are a little less expensive
