Pure & Simple Hymns: Everlasting Music for Easy Piano Paperback – March 1, 2010

Melody Bober has lovely reflective style and this book is wonderful for personal use or for performance. I am an intermediate pianist and I struggle with some of these arrangements, however, I find the style to be so pretty and relaxing that I love to play them at home just for my own enjoyment. I think that with some practice I could get some of these up to performance level, but they are fun to play none the less.

I am going to use it for piano lessons...I really enjoy Melody Bober and the playable music....

One of my students has enjoyed sharing hymns from this book at church for preludes. Easy enough to sight-read for late-intermediate/early advanced players. Interesting Celtic touches as well as a hint of jazz interspersed with traditional harmonies. Melody Bober has a gift for making pieces sound full and interesting while keeping them accessible for intermediate players.

I brought this as do like my hymn books and wanted something different from the usual hymn music you can buy. This is so different that I really am not very pleased with it. The hymns are set in quite difficult keys and transposed into octives higher which are ok for recreational piano playing but no use for accompanying singing. It is for pleasure playing I suppose and as such is ok but don't buy if you want to play it at church for instance.
