The ship's going down - this book is a lifeboat!
Critical points first: yes, this version is full of typos and the photos of NM don't add anything. A skilful editor might also have reduced the book by half without losing anything essential. But these are quibbles. For those who seriously wish to transcend the fears and compromises of everyday life and attain the glory that's always within reach, this book is a treasure house. Like Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta comes from the Hindu tradition but ignores the bells and whistles of gods, goddesses and rituals to focus on the essential, saving question: who or what am I? There is no spiritual 'path' here except the simplest (but perhaps hardest) of tasks: observing the mind and attaining the silent presence in which all is gloriously revealed. Those for whom 'look within' sounds trite are better off seeking spiritual entertainment elsewhere. As NM says: "Whatever happens points to your existence as a perceiving centre. Disregard the pointers and be aware of what they are pointing to."If you have read and appreciated Ramana Maharshi, Wei Wu Wei, J Krishnamurti, Huang Po, Douglas Harding or Alan Watts, you'll find much to appreciate and work with here.

A mastrerpiece.
This book was reccomended to me by a fellow recovering Buddhist who wanted to go deeper. The essential issues of matter ,form and spirit are discussed here in question and answer format and is an aid to the seeker of truth beyond words and even thought. This book would be a great aid for fans of Erckhart tolle.A refreshing alternative finger pointing at the moon which does not claim to be the Moon.A good spiritual teacher has nothing to teach therefore Maharaj will help you to remember who you are.Alternatively you could always read a good western.

An important book, highly recommended
This book arrived woon and was well packed and presented. It had been recommended to me by my spiritual guide, but I have not begun to read it yet.

A travesty of an edition.
I love this book, and my Guru Nisargadatta Maharaj. I've owned several editions of this book, and recently bought the 2015 edition (I'd given my previous copy away to someone). This particular edition has so many clumsy formatting and printing errors all the way through it that it's an embarrassment to the publisher (or at least it should be). Did no-one inspect the edition before mass printing and distributing it?Still, if this is the only edition available to you, it's worth buying just to have access to the wisdom and power of Nisargadatta.Namaste

I Re-read it and I Changed My Mind......
"I am That".....what can I say. I will be honest and admit that, at the time I was reading it, I was going through a depression and wasn't fully aware that I was, so really NOT a good time to be reading a book with such a deep and esoteric topic. I won't give it away, I will keep it and maybe sometime in the future I will go back to it. It is a beautifully bound book and beautifully laid out and is one of those books that you savour, both because of it's content and because of it's aesthetics........This is AMAZING, but I have just taken out the book out of my cupboard (I know, books in a cupboard - "where's your BOOK SHELF Marian?", - don't have one!) and it fell open at a book-marked page and I'm thrilled with what I've just read, so much so that I'm going to change my review from 4 stars to 5 stars! And if I may, I will type out here the wonderful quote that I've just read: "It is your mind only that makes you insecure and unhappy. Anticipation makes you insecure, memory - unhappy. Stop misusing your mind and all will be well with you. You need not set it right - it will set itself right, as soon as you give up all concern with the past and the future and live entirely in the NOW (Sri Nisargadatta's emphasis)." Now, wouldn't a quote such as that set you up for the day....? !! Enjoy!

Congratulations, your search is over...
If you have found this page and are reading reviews of "I AM THAT" then it's fair to say you have completed 99% of your spiritual journey. You are a click away from your final book. You have probably been interested in different religions, spiritual development, political and scientific systems, moved from -ism to -ism and wondered what the truth is about consciousness and reality, how you fit into the universe and which is the true school. What happens when scientific rationalism, for all its gifts, is too tied up with market forces and commerce to be fully trusted as a cosmology? Where do you go when religions finally reveal themselves to be partial, incomplete or politically motivated?Of course everyone has a favourite route to the 'now' or the 'divine', whatever you want to call it, and a favourite teacher or voice to show you the way, but I have no reason to lie to you when I say that your journey is at an end. Keep this book by your bedside - it will take a long while to absorb - but contains all the answers you have been seeking all these years.

Best spiritual book I have ever read
There is so much wisdom and simplicity in this book. This is the closest words have come to describe what can’t be described that is timeless and in everyone.

Ultimate guide to spirituality.
Good book and ultimate guide to spirituality. At times it becomes slightly repetitive, but if you get the drift, you will enjoy the read. Recommended.
