Recently discovered Elly Griffiths, the Ruth Galloway mystery’s which I absolutely loved. This collection were good and kept me turning the pages but I felt they hadn’t got the depth of the Ruth Galloway books. That said if I had read these first I would have been more than happy with them. The story line in each book was very predictable with Max joining the police to solve the mystery. The first three books seem to follow on very quickly, then there is a gap of about 10 years where the main characters are now married with children for the last books. A bonus was that I received 6 books instead of the 5 I ordered. Will definitely be adding Ely to my favourites author list.

Having bought the last book in the series 'The Great Deceiver' from a charity shop in Brighton and read it almost in one sitting. I was so happy to find the complete initial set on Amazon for such a good price. I am looking forward to settling down and reading about the characters from the beginning of their story.

I love this author! She has you hooked immediately, with her characters, plots & creative language. Highly recommended!

I only discovered Elly Griffiths last year after picking up one of her books in the supermarket. I then read all of the Dr Ruth Galloway series and then decided to also read the Brighton mysteries. This was good value for a pack of 5 books and I found it helpful to be able to read them in date order. It is good to be able to get to know the characters from the start and to follow their development. Each book is standalone so you can read each book in isolation but i strongly recommend that you read them in date order as i have done. The author has brought each character vividly to life, particularly Edgar and Max, who are the central characters but even the lesser characters such as the Great Diablo are really interesting.

Received the 6 books in the set, not 5 as shown. Very pleased. I have read all her books except these. I am sure I will find these just as interesting. Can't wait to start reading.

This is a new series for me. I have enjoyed following the lives of the two protagonists, Edgar the detective and Max the magician through the years which span the series,. There is always a mystery to solve and ongoing situations which prompt the reader to read the next book. I am about to read the last book in the series and I will ae sorry to see it end.
