Thule Sonic Cargo Box

I have now used this cargo box for two major trips and a total of about 4,000 miles, and it has exceeded my expectations. We went through some very heavy rains for a long period of time, and it never leaked a drop. There is no wind noise at all. In fact, you don't know it is up there unless you get a strong gust of wind from the side. I expected that I would see a decrease in gas mileage. That has not been the case. I used premium fuel on these trips, and I improved my gas mileage over the last time I did a trip without the cargo box using regular fuel.I have been using this cargo box on my Toyota Rav4. It fits, but I have to unscrew the radio antenna when I use it. It also is quite large. Given a "do over," I might order one size smaller. However, if I had the smaller size, I might wish I had this one — I just don't know. This one is long enough that we carried fishing rods with no problem.Pros:Aerodynamic so that it is silent and doesn't hurt gas mileage.The system where it opens from both sides, and then stays open for loading and unloading.The ease of attaching it to the car.The secure locking system.Does not leak.It looks good — doesn't really detract from the looks of the vehicle.It makes it possible for this family of 4 to do long trips in a relatively small vehicle.Cons:It seems a little big for my Rav4.Storing it between trips.It is just tall enough that I can't drive into my garage with it attached.It seemed expensive when I purchased it — at the very top end of what I was willing to pay. But I'm very happy with this purchase.

Driving right now with this for the first time and it is very quiet. However, the font does open when driving at high speeds. It opens enough for me to google it while we're driving to make sure it doesn't fly open.Was a fairly easy install considering the size of the box and the size of my car. It definitely a 2 person job and we had to get out two ladders.1/23/2014 UPDATE - It broke. We drove across county with this, unloaded and everything was fine. Tried to take it off and the accutight latch broke! Called Amazon and they ensured that they would send another one. Waited a week and called back three different times. they finally told me it was out of stock! I asked how I was suppose to get al my crap back across the country to which they replied that I should buy one locally. They did refund my money, but what a freaking hassle. I had to shove all our Xmas gifts in the back of my car. The poor dog was not happy.

For me, this was a lot of money to spend and I would have hope for better results regarding the front end of the box.Despite making absolutely sure that I did not over pack the box in terms of weight or especially in terms of the height of items inside, the front tip of the top of the box kept wanting to separate enough from the bottom that had I driven through any rain, I would have surely accumulated a lot of water inside the box. I finally stopped at a hardware store and purchased a small roll of spongy, 1/2" foam with an adhesive backing (like what you would use to insulate around a house's door). I put one strip on the inside lip of the top of the box and one strip on the outside lip of the bottom of the box, which cause sufficient friction to keep the front of the box together at highway speeds. Unfortunately, everytime I need to open the box, I have to push everything back into place. I will probably have to replace it very soon and may use something a little thinner.Aside from this issue, the huge amount of storage space is great to have and I have received numerous compliments on its appearance. But, for all the money I spent, I should not have to be dealing with this issue. I would not buy this again based on my experience.

Bought it, mounted with two people in 45 minutes, I was very particular about setting the crossbars on the yukon to as wide as the bars would go (front to rear) and still fit the box, and centering the cargo box. I was trying to stay behind the moon roof and make sure the back hatch wouldn't hit The box is more flimsy than I would like, however it is light, We spent a week driving in Utah and Colorado, several thousand miles, speeds over 80, some rain, even banging along on the dirt trails in monument valley. No extra noise, no water in the box, we have a moonroof so you can see the front of the box, it did not open up while driving down the road, like some posts mentioned on for other Thule products, there is a little bit of a trick to closing the box with a lot of gear inside. Don't try to pull down the lip right above the latch, press down on the top of the lid. I was trying to be gentle because I did not want to screw up the latch, which would pretty much make the box useless. Overall very pleased with the product, would recommend. If I could improve it, I would make it stouter with less flex, even if it had to be heavier, it's pretty expensive for what it is, but it also worked well. The black match the Yukon Denali perfectly, looked sharp.

Wonderful design and aerodynamic quiet profile! Managed to stuff in a set of 175 skis thanks to the pointed front. Easy to install, and great convenience to be able to access load from either side. The price is a little steep but in my mind the product is worth every penny so far. How long the plastic stands up will determine ultimate value.
