Product Description True Blood is the sexy, scary, wildly entertaining drama series from Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning Alan Ball (HBO’s Six Feet Under), and based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood tells the continuing tale of Sookie (Anna Paquin, Golden Globe-winner for this role), a human waitress with telepathic gifts – and a so-far irresistible attraction to 174-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Surrounded by familiar faces – including her brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten), shape-shifting boss Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell), soul-searching pal Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley), Tara’s cousin Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis); police chief Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer), vampire suitor Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) and teen vamp Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) – Sookie faces some new otherworldly threats in this season – as if vampires, werewolves, werepanthers and shapeshifters weren’t enough! .com Alan Ball's pop supernatural series True Blood expands its scope to an epic scale with its fourth season, which spreads its vast network of characters, human and otherwise, across the map while bringing aboard a host of new personalities, including a magic store owner-cum-white witch (Fiona Shaw) with a dangerous secret. Shaw's transformation from a mousy magic practitioner to vessel for the soul of a long-dead Spanish sorceress is the most intriguing storyline in the fourth season, which also concerns the return of Sookie (Anna Paquin) from the Faerie Kingdom and her subsequent romantic yearnings for Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), which naturally upset her beau and newly minted vampire king of Louisiana, Bill (Stephen Moyer). Though these two arcs alone would be sufficient for most series, season four also manages to fit in a fairly ridiculous bit of business involving Sookie's brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten), who becomes a sort of stud for a commune of were-panther women seeking offspring, as well as the fate of Arlene's (Carrie Preston) baby, which begins to share some personality traits with its father, deceased serial killer Rene. It's a lot to pack into just 12 episodes, and as a result, some storylines that deserve to be fleshed out, like the relationship between fledgling vampire Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) and human Hoyt (Jim Parrack), are left on the back burner while less effective but flashier ones, like Jason's bout with the were-panthers, are granted a larger spotlight. The result is an uneven season in comparison to its predecessors, but that shouldn't bother die-hard True Blood fans, as the show's steady diet of sex, death, and morbid humor is still operating on full blast. The five-disc Blu-ray edition of True Blood: The Complete Fourth Season is fleshed out by a wealth of informative and entertainment extras that provide a detailed look at the series' execution from the perspective of creator-executive producer Alan Ball, as well as key members of the cast and crew. Ball is front and center on the majority of the supplemental features, from commentary with Anna Paquin on "If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?" to the 28-minute Final Touches, a postproduction documentary roundtable that explores the central themes and creative requirements of the season. Moyer, Skarsgård, Woll, Shaw, and Sam Trammell, who plays shapeshifter Sam, also contribute to five additional commentary tracks, and a vast number of the show's supporting cast reprise their characters in the Enhanced Viewing mode, which offers both video and text commentary on individual episodes. Much of this is quite amusing and well crafted, though they can only be accessed through the Enhanced Viewing option and not separate from their respective episodes. The little details are also key to the True Blood Lines, a thumbnail encyclopedia of the show's immense cast of characters, organized by their particular species (human, vampire, etc.), that traces how each are connected to the rest of the Bon Temps population. Each episode also gets a brief summation from the show's writers and producers in the Inside the Episode featurettes. A pair of double-sided DVD copies and digital copies rounds out this impressive set. --Paul Gaita

season 4 is as bad as everyone said
I had heard this season was when True Blood really tanked. It's true, from here on out it's ridiculous soap opera in its most classic form. Characters are cardboard cutouts, their personalities can be changed at will - suddenly Eric is a droopy dud, all Jessica ever does is cry, all Pam ever does is snarl and then cry, Tara is alternately bad ass and puppy dog and not much else, Sookie is just 'gee whiz' wide-eyed and does a lot of blinking and eyebrow twitching as if she is constantly in a state of bewilderment, Bill has "turned evil" but it's so unbelievable that in one moment his nature changed - no buildup, no feeling that this was brewing, just one drink of god blood and 'bam!' he's evil - I thought he was faking it for some hidden agenda like he did when he was the king (I'm starting to feel like Stephen Moyer is not a very nuanced actor but maybe it's the writing/directing), Boyd became annoying when he used to be one of the nicest characters, Lafayette is consistently entertaining (he might be the only character who hasn't been altered or reduced to a facial expression), Arlene is likewise consistent and satisfying as a character.... I could go on but I can't bear it. Oh and Alcide has become boring to me. Sam too, he hasn't changed that much but he's kind of become less interesting. It's not just the writing, the editing and dialog are "off" half the time. The magic is gone. It feels like a third-rate soap that uses any excuse to show people copulating. Yeah, sex has always been a big part of this show, but it felt more meaningful in past seasons, it was part of how characters were bonding, now it just feels rote - someone's sad? sex. someone's mad? sex. a scene is boring? sex. I'd be willing to bet money there are twice as many naked boobs in this season as any previous. Some lovely boobs, don't mistake me, but it's not a substitute for a plot that works because you can feel the emotions of the characters, and because if a character has to change, you see it happening and it feels real and justified, and there is a palpable struggle, not just knitted brows, or a moment of transformation that you can feel, not just a rote "drinking this blood makes the person change" and it's a short cut to supposed character development.

BLOOD BANK
If you're into the fantasy world of vampirism, then this is a series that you should check out. Wikia describes this season as follows:Tru Blood was developed on the orders of the Vampire Authority, as part of Guardian Roman Zimojic's "mainstreaming" agenda. The finest scientific minds in the vampire community, including noted 19th century French chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur worked for decades on its creation, as a synthetic blood source was key to the Great Revelation Zimojic planned. Yakonomo Corporation engineered and marketed the Tru Blood to vampire community. After Zimojic's death and the subsequent takeover of the Authority by the Sanguinista movement, the newly converted Chancellor Bill Compton suggested bombing the Tru Blood factories as a quicker and more effective alternative to the rather complicated PR stunts suggested by Chancellors Salome Agrippa, Nora Gainesborough, Kibwe Akinjide and Rosalyn Harris. Chancellor Agrippa adored the new plan and organized the bombing of the factory in Kuwait immediately. It is not immediately clear if all five factories were successfully destroyed, but in the wake of the Authority's own subsequent destruction, the Yakonomo Corporation entrusted with Tru Blood production was desperately working to rectify the situation, even sending Ms. Suzuki to meet with Truman Burrell to discuss the lease of new facilities in Louisiana. However, Truman and Sarah Newlin contaminated the Tru Blood with Hepatitis V, and it was shipped out, causing a massive outbreak and bankrupting the corporation.

If you're looking for a series with a great story line and exceptional acting, this one is definitely worth viewing
True Blood is an excellently written series. I have watched it since it began, and recently bought this dvd set for my nephew. It is nothing like the Twilight series, and in my experience, people who really love Twilight usually do not care for this series - again, simply because the two are nothing alike. Some of the main characters here (as well as supporting roles) are vampires, but that's not to say this is a show "about vampires." This series is really best described as being about the people and goings-on of a small, backwoods Louisiana town where some of the people just happen to be vampires. As mentioned above, the writing is excellent. One of the best aspects about this series is that it is definitely NOT predictable! Not in the least. You never know where the writers are going to take you...from one episode to the next, or from one season to the next. The character development, story lines, acting, directing, casting and effects are all first rate. Considering that the series has its fair share of killing (although not overly so, and it's certainly not the focus of the show), the series couldn't be called "dark" or gory by any means. I also would not call this show necessarily "violent" either. (Personally, I don't care for violent shows or movies, and I find this series to be tolerable on the violence scale. It does have killing and blood and bodies and body parts, after all there are vampires in it, but even so, it's done in a way that is not offensive or vulgar.)There is comedy, drama, action and suspense...and very well choreographed cliff-hangers to end each episode. Despite the blood, death and suspense, the series as a whole is well balanced with comedy and other character's story lines which help keep it from being overly dark. There is a quite a bit of nudity - not raunchy, but tasteful and almost artful. So if you're sensitive to nudity, just be forewarned...or simply cover your eyes during those parts, because the story lines and acting make this series well worth watching. I easily give 5-stars to every season.Another refreshing bonus is that the episode commentary for every season is also worth watching. The actors, directors and writers actually contribute thoughtful and interesting tidbits that add to the episodes and the series. It's best to watch the commentary after you've completed the season because sometimes they accidentally reveal things that happen later in that season. This series is well worth purchasing.

True Blood.
True Blood was a really fun, interesting series to watch. Full of vampires, werewolves, and the leading lady, Sooke, a lady who can read peoples minds. It’s a great drama/fantasy/mystery show, and worth the watch. I loved it and enjoyed every season. Definitely worth binge watching a season at a time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Enjoy.
