Old School Classic
I had been looking for this CD for a long time and finally found it on Amazon. "Soul Makossa" is a great tune that was sampled by Michael Jackson, but the cut that I really like is "New Bell". Just a great vibe!!

Afro-Soul excitement
Manu Dibango was one of the early pioneers to fuse African sounds with that of American soul and funk. Most people have heard his amazing "Soul Makossa", but not much else. I was also one of those who hadn't heard anything else by Dibango, so I decided to rectify that situation when I saw this collection in the racks of a shop in Kuala Lumpur. Overall, I'm very happy with this collection. It offers a good overview of Dibang's recordings from the 70s and 80s. Oddly, after his early big hit, he never enjoyed much success or acclaim. Perhaps he was pigeonholed as "too pop" or mainstream for some world music enthusiasts, but most of this material is very powerful and uplifting, showing an artist who was passionate about his music.

New Bell
I like Soul Makossa, but the jam that I love is New Bell! It's a rock dance classic from the early 70's! Breakdance evolved from what we called "rock"! And this jam is so bad! This man plays an unbelievable sax and it keeps you going!

Manu the legend has sadly succumbed to this insidious covid19. His legacy will live on.
I have have just gone online to search for more releases from Manu, I am sad to say that Manu passed away on 24th March this year, after contracting this insidious virus that is with us all. When I saw the page online saying Manu had passed away, I cried, not for myself but for his family and friends. In this review, I hope I can do the great man justice in the way that he showed me another world and a continent of music.Back in the day when there was music that everyone could actually dance to. Along came Manu and his unique flavours of music. My introduction to Manu came in the form of "Big Blow", in 1977/78. I have mentioned this before in a previous review of Manu's music, so please forgive the repetition. That single was the most requested track in all the clubs and discos, yes I did say disco. Shows you what an old geezer I am.At that time Manu's music was considered "niche ",so youcould only get his music on import, which ofcourse had a prohibitive premium price. When I was fortunate to get hold of some of Manu's music, I paid a small fortune. That did not matter, all I wanted was to have some of the great man's music.Manu had that unique ability to incorporate so many different styles of music. There is a description of Manu's music "afro soul", that is only part of the story. His love of music and listening to music, in my humble observation, had a profound effect on him. Because of this, when you listen to any of Manu's music you just want to get up and dance and boogie.I hope this next line will not sound stupid as it is my personal observation, I think Manu opened up the continent of Africa to show the world the many beautiful facets of music in Africa. We have lost a legend in Manu, but his name and legacy to music will live on.

Tears......
