Fantastic historical, social, literary analysis, and performance notes (glosses, scansion, etc.)
absolutely indispensable for script analysis preparing for audition (bummers, didnʻt make it) and lighting design for this classic; director is a stickler for understanding historical, social, literary contexts and themes, and how they apply in modern day society, keeping the story relevant. The Arden Shakespeare has been my go-to for years, and the Third Series does not disappoint.

Arden is the best
Any Shakespeare lover should snatch up all available editions of Arden's Shakespeare texts and commentaries. The notes are wonderful, and the prefaces, introductions, and appendixes bowl me over. The recent ones are fatter and fatter and fatter. "Macbeth" isn't quite as fat as the recent Arden "Hamlet," but that's as it should be. The "Macbeth" has a photo of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. The series takes the theater and film Nachleben seriously.

The best edition of the play.
This is the best online edition of the play you could want. In fact, with its extensive introduction and easily accessible notes, it's difficult to imagine a better edition of the play.

It is a great edition of the play which we performed.
My director even edited the performance with this edition. It reads smoothly, easy to understand, and enjoyable!

Hot Potato, Orchestra Stalls, Puck Will Make Amends....
This is great if you, like me, are obsessed with the Scottish play. Waaaaaay more information and historical context for both the story and the play than any mere actor could want or need. Almost difficult to follow the play itself for all the notes flying around it. But it is a brilliant single-volume reference.
