Not a traditional rawhide hammer
This is called a rawhide hammer, but is not what most jewelry makers would consider rawhide—it’s not lacquered, you don’t need to break it in and it’s incredibly soft. More like a soft leather hammer than a rawhide one. If you’re new to jewelry making, this is probably not what you’re looking for.As a soft leather hammer, though, it seems well made and I’m sure it has its applications.

My issue is I ordered a Rawhide Mallet and was sent a soft leather mallet not Rawhide. I did not send it back since I can still use it for metal working.

Well-made
This was bought as a replacement for a rawhide mallet I used in jewelry making back in the 1970s. I still have that mallet, but it's been chewed on by varmints. A rawhide mallet is probably not a vital tool anymore, since there are plenty of rubber or plastic substitutes. This is 'old school'. It's an excellent hammer to use in furniture repair as well as jewelry making. Maybe even auto body work. I plan to keep this one where the toothy gnawers can't get at it.
