robuster..
Who ever edited this version of the first story did a fine job. Much , much better story . Better flow , better rhythm , more diversity .This is actually a very good , well crafted story. It is better than some of the books that have more followers and cost a good deal more.I like the ESP side of this version . It adds depth .Good work and I look forward to the next book in the series.

WOW!
Such a complicated story, very well told. The emotions of the characters came through clearly. Looking forward to the sequel.

The beginning.
I liked reading about Justice's sister. I read all the books in the Justice series first and was aware of Winter. Can't wait to see how the author brings the two storylines together. The brilliance of Mary Stone is always a pleasure to read. So, read and enjoy.

A strong 3 1/2 Star for the beginning of a new series. Try it ~ you'll like it!
Mary Stone’s “Winter's Mourn” is the first entry in her mystery series featuring Winter Black, a relatively new FBI agent with a terrible past. As a 13-year-old, she was the only survivor when her family was viciously murdered. There are so many negative reviews about simplistic writing and foul language. However, I had no major issues with the writing and quite frankly, I do not recall any real offensive language. As the story opens, Winter has returned to the small Virginia town where she grew up. Her friends have rented a B&B for the Christmas holiday; she arrives first to set things up for the holiday. As she starts unpacking and getting things ready, she notices strange things as food leftovers in the kitchen, unmade bed, and dirty bath. She tries to call, but the phone lines are out. Oh well, she will deal with it later. While “Winter's Mourn’s” plot was a little simplistic, it was still clever and incredibly tense. Certainly, the protagonist’s character could be more developed, but I would imagine that Stone would build Winter’s character more in books to come. This is an easy and enjoyable read. The action builds chapter after chapter to a satisfying conclusion. I am interested in watching the development of Winter black as the series continues. The is a strong 3 1/2 Star mystery.

Nonstop suspense...
Now I have to read all the Winter Black stories! Happy to see this resolution, and the growth in a couple of rookie agents, but the overarching storyline of the serial killer that took her family from her and nearly took her life as well is what will keep me reading on. Can't wait to read the next installment!

A page turner!
This was a real page turner. The characters, pleasant or evil, were believable and as such I cared about their fate. An exciting read and I look forward to more in the series.

Whodunit turns into a conspiracy thriller
Very early into the story the author reveals that the protagonist, Winter Black, has some special "gifts", a sixth sense of sorts, which more often than not helps her to locate clues and suspects. That's where I wanted to abandon the book, but persisted with it. The two FBI agents had been going good through their investigation then halfway down a third protagonist has been introduced, which may have a role to play in the overall series but just not needed in this book. A redundant character I would say. While the plot was good, the execution was bad. The last 4 chapters were unnecessary drag and I had to just skim through it. May work for some but didn't work for me.

5 stars
Can not wait to read the rest of the series, following Winter! What a great read, kept me guessing right to the end. The interactions between agent Black and agent Dolton are so good, they perfectly compliment each other. Can't wait to find out what happens with the Preacher
