MerrellBare Steps Ridge Hiker Kids

I bought these on a whim as we were getting ready to go on vacation and I thought it would be cute for my 17 month old to have her own hiking boots. They are really good quality shoes and fit really well. She wore them our entire vacation on all sorts of terrain and I actually think they helped her become more confident walking on uneven surfaces. We now use them still at home for when she's outside and needs good traction. We've definitely gotten our money's worth from these.

I purchased 2 pairs (a pair each for my daughter and son… both 2.5 years old). These shoes are adorable and perfect for the PNW weather and children’s hiking/walking trails. I noticed that their regular sneakers didn’t have traction on the bottom of their shoe which made it easier for them to slip while walking, running or playing in the gravel/dirt trails. They are also water proof for occasional puddles or rain. I still use their rain boots for the rain, but for the wet ground… these boots are perfect!

Love these! We always look for shoes that are more minimal and flexible for my 3 year old son, and these are great. I was worried about the height of the shoe, but it’s been no problem, and ultimately offers more protection. My son has always seemed to like these, never complains about any discomfort and they seem to offer good room inside the toe box, which is also a plus! We are all about shoes and clothing that just work with you, barely noticeable, and don’t hinder any activity. Overall really happy with these, and will definitely buy again when he needs the next size.

My feelings are mixed. They seem to fit my wide footed 2.5 year old well enough, and he seems to be less clumsy in them than other shoes, but he doesn't seemed thrilled about them at all. He tries to refuse them in fact. Could just be that he isn't fond of the high top, but he has poor ankle stability so that might be why they improve his stride and balance. I wish I knew if they were truly uncomfortable, but he's too young to really say and they don't leave any evidence of discomfort.My main gripe is that one of the pieces of fabric that holds the metal thing for the laces came loose today so the bungee lace is no longer attached there. I don't see any evidence that it was sewn on, so I assume it's glue and it just came loose. I don't think it will affect the functionality of the shoe much, but I expected better quality from Merrell.

So I’m not sure how water resistant these are I contacted merrell and asked if I could spray them with waterproofing spray and they said yes so I did that before my son wore them out. So now they are waterproof and fit him well seem to be comfortable for him I like the look of them and they are fairly easy to get on. I’d definitely get another pair.

These shoes fit my toddler's wide feet perfectly! They are surprisingly easy to put on, despite being a high-top. The flexible sole allows my kiddo to walk naturally. Some reviews described poor water-proofing, but that has not been out experience. We live in the PNW and these shoes have seen some major rain and puddles. No wet feet, yet. Thank you, Merrell for a great pair of shoes!!

The first day we got them he wouldn't take them off. Just wore his diaper and boots all day. I would say they're water resistant, not proof because he splashed in some puddles and his socks were wet after. A good dose of waterproofing spray should help. I ordered a size up and they fit well with socks but are still roomy. He's a 6 right now and ordered a 7 (he's 1.5).

these are super cool, look great, but lasted about a month. We are an outdoorsy family - we live on 14 acres and are surrounded by nature - we enjoy it often. These shoes started to wear and fall apart after 30 days. Really disappointed considering the name brand and reputation (plus the cost - these shoes aren't cheap). You get what you pay for was not the case here. Shame on the manufacturer.
