Easyou Ink Stone for Chinese Calligraphy Natural Stone Wavy (5" Ink Stone)

Another reviewer said this stone is too small to easily wet his brush for calligraphy. That may be so, but calligraphers often use large brushes and need jet black ink. For other kinds of brush painting, in which ink is diluted to different shades in small bowls or palettes, this is not a problem. For me, this is the perfect stone. Easily large enough to make enough ink for a session. A small shallow depression in the middle makes it easy to bring all of the ink to an adequate thickness. The cover fits well enough to prevent much evaporation. The inside edges of the inkstone bottom are rounded, making it easier to clean than stones with a sharp corner where the side meets the bottom. It makes very smooth ink as quickly as any of the other stones I have -- including some traditional old stones. If your method is to grind some ink, then use it to make solutions of varying shades, rarely using undiluted ink directly from the stone and even then not for huge calligraphy brushes, this is an excellent choice. And the price is right.

The ink stone makes an ink just as dense/thick or thin as you want, depending on the amount of water you use. The dish for it is very solid and well-made and comes with a lid. Be sure to rinse it after every use. I've attached some paintings made with this material, on real rice paper.

This ink stone is very handy for either the student, or for those like me who travel and wish a lighter weight stone to carry. It is solid stone as opposed to the cheaper, rectangular bakelite stones. It has a wavy texture, and mills the ink quickly and well. The lid is handy to keep the ink from drying and evaporating in case you are called away suddenly.

It is large compared to most and has a lid which I have never seen on others I looked at. Very good quality and the ink stick that came with it is larger than any I have ever bought and is good quality! Great combination!

Making the ink is a very mediative process. I really enjoy it. I use the ink with a wide brush and make drippy organic shapes as a starting off point for my painting. I never know what I will get when it dries. It's always a wonderful surprise.

I own several ink stones, this one has a well sealed cap and it is useful to keep the ink getting dry too quickly.The size is good for daily practice.it also include a hard ink piece as a gift.Recommend!

Every ink stone that I have ever had made a mess. This is very contained and very functional.

The stone feels nice and solid, and the plain lid mine came with is very nice. Because of the shadows in the photo I thought there was a little ditch along the edge, but instead there is only a slight depression in the middle. However, as is it's still an amazing deal for $32 and I'm glad to have kept it.I'm a newbie and was not expecting ink to evaporate so quickly so the lid is appreciated, as well as ease of cleaning the smooth interior.The inkstick it comes with is ok. There are hard grains to be careful of (I try to be very gentle and pick them out to avoid scratching the stone) but it still works enough and overall the bundle is a great deal

墨韵深浓，香气怡人。I have been using HuKaiwen ink for Chinese Calligraphy practice since I was 6 or 7. Its one of the most hostorical brands in the Chinese traditional ink making industry, which has in business for hundreds of years. The size of this ink stone is good for a compact writing space. Ground it, the ink is smooth and rich, and has slight pine-like scent. Highly recommend for beginners.

I ordered this with an image of a plain lid with no markings, which is what I particularly wanted. There was nothing to say I might get a different lid at random. So what happens? I get this stone, and the lid has a twee etching of bulrushes or something on the lid. I can't speak to the quality as I haven't used it, but I'm really mad. The etched lid makes it unusable for my purpose - really angry that I spent this amount of money and got something different. The listing seems to have changed in the meantime. I'm assuming the ink is ok.I should have known better.***Update: I've decided to sand off the etching if possible, going through the grades with some wet'n'dry... we'll see what happens. This is because I tried the stone, and it ground the ink really smoothly and finely. Upping it a star. And the ink was pretty good, too. I have better inks, but this is great for practice and writing letters.

Very nice ink stone. It took a little longer to get to Newfoundland because pandemics. Only problem I have is after I purchase it, price drop down 10 dollars.

The stone is a good one, but the ink stick is too small.
