A fascinating, erudite read
Horror hard-heads owe it to themselves to at least attempt this read. Challenging yet approachable, this insightful perspective on horror film (and the male gaze) will inform and change your experience of horror cinema.

HORRIBLE Kindle Pdf-pages transfer, & full of typos. :(
I've heard this is a fantastic book. But the Kindle version is nothing but screenshots. There's no way to enlarge text or to anything more than look at each page as though it's a PDF. To add insult to injury, the page scans are terrible, with many words missing letters, or stretched out to fit page width. They treat this book (and the author) poorly, y'all.I should have looked at the reviews, but I was so stoked to see this book available I snapped it up immediately. My bad.Do yourself a favor and buy a hard copy. That's what I'm going to do.

Horror and gender studies advanced doctorate thesis
Are horror films exploitative, misogynistic trash to promote violence? Or is there something deeper in many of these despised films that more aligns with feminism and exposing the evils of man and repressed sexuality? This book takes an incredibly-deep dive into horror and the common themes that show a more female-focused representation than the average critic gives credit. This is an academic work, and much of it reads as dry as your college term papers, so don't expect an enjoyable light read. This digs into the psychological concepts you've likely never considered while Leatherface is slicing up city-folk. This also is not for the faint or sensitive as much time is spent exploring the revenge films that are more rooted in the ugly realities of our world.Overall, very fascinating and thought- provoking for these interested in an academic view of "low-film."
