Good Drop-In Replacement for Minimus 7
During some loud play, the surround on one of my 20+ year old Realistic Minimus 7 woofers disintegrated. I used a pair of these to replace the front pair in my 5.1 system. I'm happy with the decision. They were drop-in, although a tight fit due to the much larger magnet. They seem to sound a bit brighter, which is good for my old ears which have lost much of their high end. Other than the brightness, I can't tell much difference, but again that's more due to my poor hearing, I'm sure. The stamped metal frames are quite thin. I noticed the corners bending downward when I tightened the screws, but it doesn't seem to affect the performance. In the past I replaced a Minimus 7 woofer with a Goldwood 4" Poly Woofer. These are a little more expensive, but I rate the sound a little better than the Goldwood, and the magnet on the MCM is substantially bigger. Hopefully that means a larger voice coil that can handle more power. There are two spade-type connectors for each terminal, spaced 90 deg. apart, but they are narrow on the (-) side and wider on the (+) side. It would have been more helpful if they had put one of each kind per side. My easy fix was to split the wider lug in half with diagonal pliers, so that it accommodated the narrower connector lug on the Minimus 7's wire end.
