A fantastic book about pre-Christian Irish beliefs in a modern world
I ordered this volume (and a couple of other books recommended by Amazon) based on an inspired search after a morning ritual about a week ago and finished the book over my cup of coffee this morning and before I was even finished with it I was already recommending it to my partners and to my friends. Wow!I'm not a witch - I don't think? - but one of my partners has been practicing for several years and my other partner is a baby witch. As for me, I'm a curious bystander who has been looking for a more formal introduction to Paganism in general, especially those branches tied closely to my ancestral homeland (which may not be Ireland according to the latest DNA testing - but certainly not far off). This book did not disappoint. Lora has a way of explaining dense information in an informal, but educational, way with a sense of wit and humor that leaps off of the pages and speaks to the heart.I learned a ton from this book proper, but perhaps more importantly have been introduced by Lora through this text to further sources to continue my education. If you are on the fence about purchasing this book, don't hesitate. If you are interested in pre-Christian Ireland, modern Pagan practices that stem from Irish belief, witchcraft, or how to handle raising a non-Christian family in a Christian world, buy this book. In fact, just buy this book regardless of your predispositions. This book will have a prominent display on my bookshelf for years to come, assuming it doesn't get worn out from lending it to friends and family - at which time I will not hesitate to buy more copies.I've already ordered my next round of books written by Lora O'Brien and cannot wait to finish them as well.

The book I've waited a lifetime for
What an absolute treasure trove of information. I wish I'd had this book when I was 12 years old, but 50 will have to do. My gratitude to the author.

Authentic connection to living Irish culture
I’m familiar with Lora O’Brien’s work through the Irish Pagan School, but wanted to delve more into their writing. This is the first book I’ve gotten from them and loved it.This book expertly gives a concise yet thorough overview of the relationship between historical and modern Irish culture to the practice of magic and connection with dieties. This book is comprehensive enough at teaching new information while giving the appropriate summary that sparks curiosity and motivation to dive deeper into the topics through more research. I recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Irish culture and/or feeling more connected to Ireland.

10 Stars If I could
This is a straight forward book and no held back truths for those who are serious about learning Irish spirituality. It’s not a recipe book for spells like usual books instead she focuses on the very foundation in which to be successful in an Irish based spiritual path. I love Lora’s work and this book is definitely not a disappointment. Highly recommend.PS: Some reviews are saying that she is talking about how having Irish blood is important, this is further from the truth. Both in the book and out she is very inclusive and her upmost pet peeve are gatekeepers like such.

A fundamental reading for anyone seeking to delve into authentic Irish magic
An elegant writer with lifelong experience in the field of witchcraft, Lora O'Brien gifts us another amazing book. Amazing, the word is not thrown into the comment randomly- it conveys the feeling about the quality of info and richness found in the book. Irish Witchcraft With an Irish Witch is both a labor of love and that of. scholar: it reflects Lora's passion as. practitioner of authentic Irish magic, along with grounding such passion in solid knowledge of history and folklore. I have been waiting for this book, and I could't be any happier with it now that I read it.

Irish Study of Witchcraft should be the title
This book will disappoint a lot of people who think they will have spells from an actual Irish Witch. Lora O'Brien writes this book like a resource book of the seven seasons. She provides the seasons with the Gaelic word and pronounce. Then there are pages upon pages of how the Irish will celebrate the season. The book was actually boring and really not that insightful about Irish Witchcraft.

The beginning of my journey...
I was born in County Antrim but moved to several countries throughout my childhood, so on my return to Ireland I felt like a stranger in my own home. I searched for purpose in my 20's and it wasn't until my 30's that I discovered Wicca and Paganism. This book inspired me to learn more about Irish mythology and the Gaeilge language itself. For those that don't know the history of Ireland, both ancient and modern, you may feel you're being lectured about colonialism; but I assure you it's just the dry humour of the Irish spirit. I highly recommend this book for those that want to learn about our wee emerald island and the magic that still lurks across the land.

Everything wonderful about Irish Paganism with historical context.
Nothing brings me as much joy as a historically based account of mythologies and religions, and Lora O'Brien delivers. Her writing has a delightful mix of carefully researched and learned history, some Irish linguistics, and personal experiences that inspire and find a wonderful balance between informative, entertaining, and straight to the point. This is definitely one of my favourite books in my collection, and one of the few religious books that I consider incredibly trustworthy. I can't recommend this enough.

Exactly what I needed
So happy to find a book dedicated to Irish specific paganism. I’ve noticed the mispronunciations and spelling of certain words such as ‘Beltane’ (ew) and recognized the Irish root in it. This book is a fantastic resource to set things straight, and I feel more capable to connect my spiritual path to my homeland where I was born and raised and my ancestors as past great grandparents it’s a bit unknown. You will not be coddled in this book so if that’s what you want look elsewhere. I for one thoroughly appreciate Lora’s sentiment in this book and where she is coming from and she is to the point and out straight.Highly recommend

Finally, a book about REAL Irish spirituality.
This is the book I needed for the last 10+ years. Finally, a book about real, authentic, native, Irish spirituality. Made so many things clearer and deepened by understanding. A book whose substance I finally feel a deep rooted ancestral connection to.
