On the Shortness of Life: Adapted for the Contemporary Reader (Harris Classics)

This is worth your time given its many valuable life lessons. I wish l would have read this book much earlier in my life. It boils down to the quality of your short life, not the length of your life.

This translation of Seneca’s work is both relevant and readable. It will add to my library of Stoicism foundation readings. I would purchase it again.

Deeply satisfying treatise on the swiftness and vanity of modern life. Favorite bit for me was Seneca calling on us to become philosophers and take as our friends and fathers the great thinkers of history.

Seneca has profound and incredibly practical wisdom in this timeless work in how to get the most out of your life and time. By pointing out the vanity in his transient age, he correlates to the modern reader an eternal truth, that philosophy (the study of wisdom) can never die, and by utilizing it daily, you may find that purpose inside of you constantly craves and how to feed human nature more than fleeting leisure or overwork, but the balance that purpose brings to the soul of Man in the solitude of has mind. You can't go wrong here, read this!

Very enlightening. Being reminded of the essence of life-the simple things I found to be quite relieving. Whenever I read a book like this, I wonder why it has taken me so long to read it. I would consider this a must read.

Got this for free on kindle unlimited. Took about 20 minutes to read.Didn't see the subtitle that it was adapted (read on phone)Now I want to read the real (best translation)I'm always wary of works that are adapted for contemporary times because there is always the risk of some politically correct verbiage that is used to write over the old "unacceptable" translation.So I would avoid this version if you want to read this work.

The book provides some insights into lives lead by men over ages. They yearn for titles and glory. They waste so much time in envy, or jaleousy, but life is long enough if you live it the right way.

Very much a complainer he is, oh nothing positive does he have to say. The criticism is for all walks of life, the editing on this book is well done saves the book.

It is a interesting book, but this guy had no fun writting it, hope he had more than complains in his Life.

Der Inhalt des Buches ist sehr gut und bietet vermutlich für jeden Leser eine neue / interessante Sicht auf unsere Lebenszeit.Enttäuscht bin ich jedoch von der Qualität des Bucher. Gedruckt wurde es von Amazons Print-On-Demand Service. Die wirklich sehr dünnen Cover lassen das Buch billig wirken, aber wirklich stören tut das Papier der Seiten. Das Papier hat eine starke chemische weiße Färbung, die sich stark zu dem normalen Buchpapier unterscheidet (siehe Bild) und ist außerdem sehr dünn, was dafür sorgt, dass Textmarker sofort auf der anderen Seite zu erkennen sind. In unbedruckten Bereichen ist außerdem der Text der vorherigen Seiten zu erkennen.Ich hätte gerne 3-4€ mehr für dieses Buch bezahlt, wenn diese in eine verbesserte Buchqualität geflossen wären.Inhalt also yay, aber Buch nay
