Feldenkrais Illustrated: The Art of Learning
P**T
When Less is More, A condensed collection of Moshe Feldenkrais's ideas.
When Less Is MoreFeldenkrais IllustratedTiffany Sankary spent a decade creating Feldenkrais Illustrated; she took her time creating something meaningful and artful. Her time was well spent.Moshe was a complicated guy and his writings are thick and intricate. He writes about complex subjects where there are many correct answers depending upon your perspective. I have to focus on his meaning as he wanders through a subject to finally arrive at a conclusion. I like the way he writes— I like to imagine it matches the way I think. However, his style does have its drawbacks. If I want to find something quickly, I won’t find it reading his books. That’s when I need to have Feldenkrais Illustrated close at hand. When I’m looking for a spark of inspiration or want to create a deeper state of listening within myself, I go directly to this book. I find it useful to read a quote before I participate in an Awareness Through Movement class, just before a Functional Integration lesson, or when I am preparing to converse with someone in a more-than-casual way. There is an added benefit from owning this book: If I am still curious and want more, I can Google the quote and instantly find the book, chapter, and page where the quote came from. Then I can delve deeper into Moshe’s thinking. Easy peasy, sneezy, life made simple.I send friends this book and refer them to it if they are interested in learning, education, self-reflection, and community service, justice; or even if they are just amateur life philosophers like me.I sell the book to my clients so they can understand more of the reasoning and benefits from the philosophy of slowing down and to others who are interested in the varied mindful practices that have been in vogue for the last few millennia. My Nonviolent Communication clients get just as much value from reading Feldenkrais Illustrated, as do my Restorative Justice and Feldy friends.I set this book in a place of honor, on the coffee table right beside The Gift by Hafiz, so I have something handy when I need quick connection to what’s important to me. I like having my poetry mixed with my science in my morning coffee or as I’m lying down to do an Awareness Through Movement in the evening.I recommend that every practitioner and student of anything have this book. Keep it on display. Use it as you would when you need a stanza from a poem and not the entire poem, or a quote from an informative book not the entire chapter. Feldenkrais Illustrated is another highly inspirational example of Less Is More.Muchas gracias, Tiffany.Time well spent.

An invitation to play with our ideas and get curious about self
This book is inviting, accessible and refreshing with artwork that calls us to come closer.I loved the comic book feel that has a friendly request for the child in us to come play with these ideas.Any page can be used as a mediation to dive deeper and explore.I found the book fluid, flexible and interactive.A lovely coffee table book, and addition to any library where one is a life time learner.

At first I really did not like the drawings
At first I really did not like the drawings, so I started reading first and than contemplated the drawings. That works for me. The drawings help to wrap the meaning full circle. There is so much to consider and this book is a wonderful powerful recap of Dr. Feldenkrais' teaching and methods.

Crystal clear.
The best possible introduction to Feldenkrais. Dr. F wrote a lot, but it was often hard to comprehend. This book makes it accessible. The easy, bite size pieces with illustrations help even someone who had read multiple Feldenkrais boos gain a richer understanding- while still having a good time!

Misleading title
I thought this would be an illustrated guide to Feldenkrais movements, not a philosophy book with little illustrated figures.

This book has artwork to accompany Feldenkrais' theory but the drawings DO NOT reflect the movements or exercises in his writings. Some (much?) of Feldenkrais' writings in describing his movement exercises are challenging to follow and I was looking for something that visually displayed those movements. This book isn't it.

Good start
Good read. Good start. Much easier reading than some other books that explain the method

Great book for reflection!
Fantastic guide for understanding the writings of Feldenkrais, particularly if you are a visual learner. I am not a Feldenkrais practitioner, but curious about the underpinning theory for the class I attend. His books need focus and concentration, whereas this book can easily be dipped into and I find it stimulates reflection. Without doubt, both the quotes and pictures will mean different things to different people. As a Counsellor, I would have it on the booklist for anyone interested in Person Centred Therapy, or their own personal development. It was delivered yesterday, and I have read it through twice already.

Wonderful, quirky book
I really enjoyed this book. At first I wasn't sure about the handwriting and the artwork, but I quickly changed my mind. The artist has done a wonderful job in bringing Moshe Feldenkrais' ideas to life. It's a great book to read slowly and contemplate on every sentence and every picture. Definitely a book to keep and read again and again.

Not what I was expecting.A book of graphics. It's very subjective, probably very interesting for some people.

A book for life.
This is the most amazing book. For those who find reading Feldenkrais a bit dense, this is an amazing alternative. One can continue to dip into it for a lifetime, it never leaves my bedside. Beautiful, thoughtful, creativity from the author. I really cannot find the right words to describe the depth and beauty of this original book. A book for all humans. Thank you Tiffany.
