Electric Chubbyland

Popa Cubby is an amazing guitar player, and I've seen him play Hendrix. When I saw this was back in stock I had to buy it. It's fantastic. Wish it was available in vinyl.

If you like Popa Chubby then this belongs in your collection.If you have never heard him but you are an electric rock/blues fan,check him out. I have listened to most of Popa Chubby's recordingsand this is my favorite CD of his.In my personal opinion he excels when interpreting covers of great songs written by others, and it is a tough challenge to try to cover someone as great as Jimi Hendrix. But he rises to the challenge beautifully without falling into the trap of just copying or mimicking Hendrix. Instead he owns the songs in his own uniquely authentic way, as he does with other great Chubby Popa covers found elsewhere (like Somewhere Over the Rainbow as a classic example of his artistry in action).

Popa Chubby does a great job. If you like Hendrix you will love this (Hey Joe is amazing). I found out I’m not a huge Hendrix fan, but I was able to appreciate Popa’s skill throughout the 3 CDs

Popa Chubby, after playing at a Jimi Hendrix tribute show, heard many comments from fans that he should record some Hendrix songs. So he did.Recorded over two nights at a small club in Middletown, NY, Popa Chubby just goes to town on the Jimi Hendrix catalog.If you're not familiar with Popa Chubby, the dude can play some mean blues guitar and he plays some really great stuff here.Buy both volumes because they make a hell of a collection.You won't be disappointed with these discs!

I do not know why Volume 1 & 2 are not combined--same cover and linear notes. This CD is just fair. Chubby does a somewhat good version of Hendrix songs but what is lacking is a voice that really brings out the songs. Papa's guitar is good but never up to the level of Hendrix. I could think of a dozen guitarists who could do a better job here. There is no emotion in Papa's voice--not at all like Hendrix or even Stevie Ray. The sound is weak and the songs sound cut off in places--the whole thing sounds a little hurried up. I am a Papa Chubby fan but I like his studio recordings much better. He could have done better on these 2 cds.

what can one say about a cd. you either like the music or not. i like popa seen him live many times so i give it a 5

IS THERE A BETTER BLUES SONG THEN "RED HOUSE" ON THISCD. WHAT A MASTERFUL VERSION. OUTSTANDING GUITAR WORK.I WILL BUY MORE OF POPPA CHUBBY.
