Suggestions to improve your bedtime reading experience.
It is useless to try to attach the clamp to any furniture surface. (headboard, night table etc) It WILL come loose. I placed a 18" X 24" piece of plywood between my mattress and box springs with just 3 inches of one corner sticking out. I clamped the goose-neck stand tightly to the exposed corner. The rubber/silicon pad on the clamp screw came off and the whole thing then collapsed. Thank goodness for carpeted floors. I reattached without the rubber thingy and clamped it extra tight. NOW it will hold fast... Except for the screw that holds the goose-neck to the clamp. Repeated adjustment of my iPad into viewing position (it doesn't get any better than this!) caused the screw to loosen. It has not unscrewed completely, yet, so I just rotate the iPad toward the headboard and it is out of my way to enter and exit the bed. I call this an "undocumented feature". It works well. You will need a longer charger cable for your device unless you want to dismount it while charging. My iPad is light and the goose-neck holds its position well.A dab of Loctite during the initial assembly may prevent the screw from ever loosening but I prefer the effortless rotation of the arm. Note: if you fall asleep while reading you may bump your head on your device if you rise suddenly for a midnight bathroom run. I personally raised my head to rotate onto my other side and bopped myself into alertness.iPad and Kindle users: If you set up your text as white on a black background then adjust the brightness level to its lowest setting, you can comfortably read without any other lights on. Then as you drift off to sleep, the light is not bright in your eyes. Don't worry, your device will turn itself off after 10 minutes or so of non-use. Ain't technology grand?!

Impressive build & finish quality, made of real metal! A very good bargain.
I was amazed at the level of finish of the metal parts of this stand. Really well made. Great extruded and cast aluminum parts, just quality overall. No cheap stampings - this is made of actual metal. There is no feeling of flimsy cheapness here. I don't normally review products unless they are particularly awful or they are really good. This is a case of "really good."Easy to assemble if you have any mechanical aptitude at all. I filed the keyway of the rod that mounts to the base clamp a little to let it fit into the extruded base a little better, it is a tight fit.The gooseneck arm is thick and substantial, and offers enough resistance to bending to stay put after you bend it to your liking. Of course, the arm is going to shake a little- it's pretty long and so when you touch the tablet the arm will oscillate a little afterwards, there's no way to avoid this. if the arm were made more rigid in order to stop this minor "bounce" it would be too rigid to move into your desired position. You can mount this thing in various ways, the base can be set up for vertical or horizontal mounting. There are serveral places where you can turn or pivot various parts then lock them with tension screws. The surfaces that clamp the bed or desk have rubber covering to prevent marring the wood. All in all a really well designed and well made item, especially at the price. If you want something offering much greater rigidity, then you don't want a bendy "gooseneck" type thing, look elsewhere- you'll want another type of mount. This thing holds were you position it but does sway just a little after you touch the screen, etc.If you want the maximum flexibility in positioning at a very reasonable price, then this is the arm for you.(FYI I used it with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1)

Not quite what I expected.
I had expected to receive a product in a "product box", but I received this in a shipping box as if someone had opened the product box, removed all of the parts, shoved them into a shipping box, and then sent them to me. The instructions are a couple of sheets of paper with hand-written corrections. The "goose neck" part was covered with some very sticky substance near the tablet end. I would say the product was built by hand v. mass produced. There was a lot of assembly required, more than I expected. The goose neck threaded onto a bolt, but I could not get it threaded all the way, I do not know how this will affect the performance of the product. In all, it only took about five to ten minutes to assemble the parts and another five to ten minutes to install it (the first attempt marred my head board).I got it installed in a temporary location, I will be installing a board on the back of my head board for mounting this, and other products (lamps, etc.), this should give me more length to work with. I will be installing black wire ties to hold down the tablet's power cord.I highly recommend ordering an additional power cable for your tablet so you can dedicate one for use with this device while attached.

I like this product very much
I like this product very much, it took me a wile before I choose this one after reviewing the other one's out on the market. I originally had the rocket fish iPad stand , which I had a few years and loved it so I was looking for another one but they are discontinued. The upside with this mount is the long flexible goose neck and that it can hold my iPad 1, iPad Air and with their protective cases on them. I sometimes have it clamped on the side of my bed for reading before I go to bed it works good for that and in the car for road trips When I use the gps on the iPad. The down side is the bulky bottom mount needs to be redesign because if your surface your mounting it to is too short it will not clamp and the rubber sticky pad on the screw clamp keeps coming off if you move it from place to place, also the packaging could have been more protective or somewhat preassembled to protect the threaded bolt hole for the main hex head bolt, when I received it the bolt hole was dented and I could not thread the hex bolt so I had to re thread the hole, luckily I own a self tapping kit and fixed it my self. The price was a little high but it was the better one out there.
