A good money saving alternative to tungsten or halogen bulbs
LED's have very much become the standard for light bulbs over the last couple of years and for good reason too - they are so much cheaper to run than conventional bulbs and last so much longer too. For example, this bulb uses 8.5W of power and has a stated light output of 806 lumens. To achieve a similar light output from a tungsten bulb, you would need a bulb with a power rating of 54W. As such, this bulb will save 45.5W of power for every hour of runtime. If it is assumed that electricity costs about 18p per unit (kW/h), this means that this LED bulb will save about 0.82p for every hour it is used. Whilst this might seem tiny, it very quickly mounts up i.e. £8.19 over the course of a year (assuming 1000 hours of use per year), at which rate, the bulb should last 15 years. Accordingly, the initial investment of this bulb should be very quickly recouped and very quickly provide significant savings. As mentioned, this bulb is equivalent to a 54W tungsten bulb and as such, it is reasonably bright. It is also quite large (6.0cm in diameter x 11.0cm in length) albeit, not significantly bigger than its tungsten equivalent. As such, it should be suitable as a like for like replacement in most circumstances. One consideration which is relevant to LED bulbs which wouldn't have been relevant to tungsten bulbs is the colour temperature. There are broadly three main colour temperatures which LED bulbs are produced in, these being 2700K (warm white), 4000K (cool white) and 6500K (daylight white). This particular bulb has a colour temperature of 2700K (warm white) and personally, this is my preference for LED bulbs.Whilst in use, the bulb gets quite warm around the base and given that heat is probably the biggest cause of premature failure in LEDs, this provides a slight concern that that the 15,000 hour lifespan might not be achievable. Clearly, this is not something which I can confirm as yet (otherwise my review wouldn't be available for quite a number of years). As a final point, the title of this product makes reference to this bulb being 7W (rather than 8.5W), having an E27 base (rather than B22d) and with a colour temperature of 4000K (rather than 2700K). Whilst a version of the bulb may be available with these characteristics, it is incorrect for the version of the bulb which I have received. Accordingly, make sure you chose the correct option on the Amazon product page, to avoid getting a bulb which is different than expected.

Specification differs from that offered
A common style of LED bulb that most closely resembles traditional frosted incandescent bulb of yesteryear, the "Osram LED Lamp | Base: E27 | Cool White | 4000 K | 7 W | Replacement for 60 W | Frosted | LED Retrofit Classic A" could be the ideal choice for bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways or any room of a modest size. and where is golden tone of light is most acceptable.Osram is an established European brand and once considered as the most reliable. It is less often seen since incandescent bulbs were discontinued but there is a resurgence as they are now offering several styles of LED bulb in a range of designs, colour temperatures and wattage to compete with the widely available and usually inexpensive Oriental alternatives.Illustrated was a B22 fit bulb while the description provided included 'E27'; there was therefore confusion as to which version would be received - it is B22!. The bulb delivered is not 'Cool White' or 4000K as offered but the 2700K 'Warm White' version which is personally least favoured and rarely used as a bluer light is preferred. The design is supposedly also available in other colour temperatures.Lifespan is quoted as 15,000 hours which may be surpassed.

Excellent neutral-white bulb from Osram
At 4000K, this is an excellent compromise between warm and daylight white – good for reading and task lighting but also comfortable enough for entertaining and relaxing. The bulb is instant-on, flicker-free and buzz-free. At 7W, it does match a 60W incandescent. The CRI of 80 isn’t the best but is adequate for most purposes. It’s made in China, just like nearly all the LED bulbs you’ll find. I feel, though, that with a western brand I can at least trust the specs – Osram doesn’t seem to be suggesting unrealistic lifetime or exaggerating the CRI. I’m very happy with this and would buy again, but keep in mind that it isn’t dimmable.

Led bulbs
These are plastic as so many are, and look pretty cheap, but being made by Osram, should be well madeThese look a bit naff, cheap to run, and throw out a decent light.Really good bulbs, highly recommended

Good Value 60W Replacement
A quality LED frosted bulb providing a bright pleasing warm white light with low energy usage. It is rated at 2700K, 8.5W equating to 60W. The product description is for 7W 4000K but the product received is as reviewed above.

Full brightness straight away.
I hadn't realised just how annoying our previous lightbulb had been until we swapped it for this one.So nice to switch on the light and get a nice bright room immediately instead of having to wait for the light to get to full strength as we'd had to with our previous LED bulb. This is just right for a bedroom main light. Bright but not glaring at all. Very happy.
