3 Discs not 1 with so so picture quality. Great special features / FULL SCREEN. Enjoy.
Great collection of 80's movies. "Back to School" looks like I'm watching 240 DVD NOT 1080 Blu-Ray. "City Slickers" looks like I AM watching 720 Blu-Ray. "My Cousin Vinny" looks like I AM watching 720 Blu-Ray. The listing on Amazon says 1 disc NOT 3. I strongly believe that movies like this don't need to be 1080 resolution to be enjoyed. I also know that every single movie in this collection could easily fit on a single Blu-Ray disc at its CURRENT resolution. I paid extra to get ONE DISC NOT THREE. To me the whole purpose behind Blu-Ray is better options and for me taking LESS space on my shelf AND/OR better picture BUT in this case I have NEITHER for MORE MONEY!

'My Cousin Vinny' ' Back to School' & 'City Slickers' on BluRay
Paid $9.99 for this 3 movie set and it was well worth it. Before I left the store I made sure that all three movies were on separate discs and they were so no worries about 2 movies on a single ultra compressed Blu Ray DVD.These movies have been around for some time and I wasn't sure which ones still had legs as movies; it turns out that all 3 of them retain their humor and warmth and hold up quite nicely. However, since plots, acting and opinions on the movies have already been written too many times to count I will only focus on the quality of each film's transfer to Blu Ray.BACK TO SCHOOL... VIDEO: While the film retains the soft focus of most movies shot on film and not video you can see a mild film grain, very mild and it doesn't take anything away from the transfer. This is an excellent transfer with good contrast and some excellent color saturation and resolution. Colors are really quite natural and details is shadow areas are not blacked out by over crushing the darks in post production. I saw no artifacts or aliasing at any time. Mbps appeared to average in the low 30's. AUDIO..The DTS HD MA 5.1. is a lossless codec which is always better than any lossy codec out there. There is a nice audio spread across front stage for the soundtrack. However there is very little to no use of rears or LFE channel. The movie simply has little use for the sub channel and minimum need to incorporate the surrounds. Never the less, the audio levels are very good and do not demand any adjustment to your volume controls once you set them they way you want them. EXTRAS..Excellent 2007 docs on Rodney Dangerfield which really gave you insight into his life, a short one on Kurt Vonnegart, a making of, trailers ect...All in all, excellent blu ray which clearly has been updated for BluRay transfer.CITY SLICKERS..... VIDEO...City Slickers boasts an excellent transfer and greatly improved color resolution over previous releases. I saw no artifacts or visual issues at any time., The focus tends to be soft but there is good contrast and details in darker scenes. Very good transfer with Mbps rate averaging in the low 30's. AUDIO.. DTS MA HD 5.1 Again, a nicely transparent lossless audio . Oddly enough, though shot in the wide open, there was not much use made of the surrounds during the first half of the movie and little use of the LFE channel. However, and especially towards the final half hour, your surrounds and sub are put to some good use with panning from front to rear. Throughout the entire film the stereo spread across the front stage is very good. EXTRAS.. Updated extras made in 2008. Re visiting Norman the calf, Making of, 2 deleted scenes that were really alternate scenes. Very good discMY COUSIN VINNY VIDEO... Once again, a soft film like focus with hardly any noticeable grain. I know I said I wouldn't write my opinions on the film, but it still had me laughing and being touched by some of the sentiments. Color resolution is very natural and no artificial color grading that might distract was done either in post production or prepping the film for encoding to Blu Ray. I noticed no artifacts of any kind, just a nice clean transfer. I think some might want a stronger contrast between colors but I did not feel it necessary. Mbps rate was the lowest of the 3 films averaging in the mid to high teens. AUDIO...DTS MA HD 5.1 lossless audio provided easy listening and dialogue was clear and transparent with no roller coasting of the film's volume. I was surprised to hear as much use of the rear and surrounds as I diid with this film, especially in the opening scenes, for this voice driven film. Very nice job. EXTRAS...Other than the typical commentary which I have not listened to as yet, there are only two TV and two movie trailers. I was disappointed that they did not update the extras on this film. All in all, none of these films in this 3 movie collection would be classified as reference films to show off your monitor or surround home theater, and yet, their transfer to Blu Ray is far superior to some excellent films whose transfer to Blu Ray was severely lacking. ('Goodfellows' comes to mind). While not DEMO BluRays, you get good, clean transfers and your money's worth for 3 films that hold up to the test of time and technology. All my reviews focus solely on the quality of the transfers to Blu Ray of both video and audio and I do hope that this review has been of some help to you in deciding upon your purchase decisions and that I am on the correct path with this type of review. If so, check out my reviews of other films. Thanks for reading.
