GREAT CONCEPT POOR EXECUTION! (12/1/16 update)
Update 12/1/16: the battery has continued to be an issue even after both the Camera and the viewer are continuously plugged in to an outlet. Now the battery on the viewer or just the viewer itself has stopped working all together. So my review will have to decrease to two stars. GREAT CONCEPT POOR EXECUTION! 6/2/16 addendum: the only negative I have found is the battery life. It only lasts a couple of days therefore having to be switched out inconveniently frequent. I will have to regroup and hard wire the outside unit to avoid the annoyance. That being said my original 4 stars has decreased to 3.Due to the reviews I was a little skeptical of this product. But by reading the description and features, it met all the needs on paper for my elderly mom that I had wished for. I'm pretty handy with strictly replacing home improvement items with other home improvement items as long as all the necessary "guts" are there. So I felt I could put this up with a little more effort. Well to my wonderful surprise, the outdoor unit was as easy to put up as making sure the placement for the line of sight was good and the drilling a couple of holes in the front door. As soon as I charged the lithium batteries in both units, they synced with each other and started the monitoring process all on their own, even taking pics of me installing the outside unit without me knowing it. The Instructions for installation and use were simple. The ring tones/bells are loud and the monitor is clear and easy enough for my mom to operate. The product seems to be sturdy enough but time will tell. It does give you the option to connect the outside unit to its AC power cord but I have my mom keep the monitor on the base near her lazyboy (which charges it's battery), then when it comes time for the outside unit's battery to be charged (approximately 500 idle hours - not tested yet), I can just exchange the fully charged battery from the inside monitor (the batteries are exactly the same). The outside unit can be taken down from its backplate with the removal of a small hidden screw but be sure you have the inside unit close by because as soon as you remove the outside unit from its base, which is anchored to the door, a deafening alarm goes off and it has to be shut off by the inside unit. So that should answer your question about what's to stop someone from removing the unit. Also, with the PIR mode on, pictures are taken with any movement in its range of sight which is pretty good. I'll keep you all posted on the durably and longevity of the product but for now, so far so wonderful!

IT works!
I recently installed a new wall around my property and needed an access controller and an intercom. The Difficulty in getting wiring where I wanted it inside led me to this product. So far, it works exactly as it should!I bought it along with the Generic Full Complete Waterproof Metal Case Stand-alone Access Control Set & Wiegand 26 I/O & NO Mode Electric Strike Lock and hardwired the unit to the Access controller. Figuring out how to wire them together did take all of my brain power, but it did finally work. The secret is the N/O connects with the PUSH, and Com connects with Ground. The unit did arrive with something large rattling around inside. I opened it up to discover the cover plate of one the circuit board had simply fallen off in shipment. It snapped back on and was good to go. The U/I is little less that intuitive and requires a long press of many of the buttons to access that function. There is also a slightly awkward delay from the time you press the bell button to the time is starts to ring inside. This is surely a function of the distance I have the inside unit from the outside which is about 20 feet through two walls.Long story short, this product allowed me to get my gate access control up and running much quicker and easier than having to cut a ton of sheetrock and install a dozen feet of conduit.

This Skatco wireless doorbell has a very good camera wide angle view and can be adjusted left
This is the third of it's type I have tried and I guess three is the charm because this one works exactly as advertised! I have waited for a bit more than a month to see if it continued to work properly - it has, and I decided it was time to write a review. I tried the kind that uses wi-fi and discovered they were much too slow. By the time you got an alert that someone was at the front door they had given up and left. In addition, Skybell claimed to allow your existing doorbell to work. It didn't, so the company sold me a $12 circuit board (plus shipping) that was supposed to fix the problem but didn't. This Skatco wireless doorbell has a very good camera wide angle view and can be adjusted left, right, up and down at installation. I have the outside unit hooked up with power from the included transformer with battery backup. The batteries are li-ion very much like cell phone batteries. The range of the inside unit is very good and so is the quality, although I have to say I don't have a very large house. They say you can add an extra monitor unit if you want. If you've been looking, this is the one.

wish i had them a long while ago.
this is great! worked out of the box perfectly, just what we were looking for. easy to install, nice clear pictures and bell can be heard no matter where you are in the house. I also found it useful to take the indoor monitor out of its charging dock and take it upstairs when I'm working in my home office. It has a fold-out back stand so will sit neatly on a desk or any flat surface. has night vision which works very well. item as described, would definitely use this company again and recommend to family and friends!

Outside unit wouldn't charge
To charge the battery on the outdoor portion of the intercom, one has to read a circuitry chart and decipher how to insert the wires into the back of the outdoor unit. There is also a separate adapter cord to keep up with. It would have seemed much simpler to just have an A/C adapter built into the unit instead of having to manually wire up the adapter every time the unit needs to be charged. Never could get the outside unit to charge which I am not sure was due to wiring up the unit incorrectly (tried multiple configurations) or if the battery was not functioning correctly. Returned the device. Other than that one major issue, the device seemed to be well built.

Works good.. Only reason for 2 stars is that ...
Works good.. Only reason for 2 stars is that the outside battery goes dead after a few days (low use). Have to switch the batteries with the inside unit then it works as before..Can't keep up with changing the batteries every couple days.

Terrible at best after a year of use
Terrible at best after a year of use. Temperamental. No way is the distance on mine 300m, it struggles to make a connection at 10 metres. Sometimes you have to press the activate button more than once. If you have any walls in the way from the receiver to the camera (which you are bound to) then it struggles. No alert when the battery goes flat so you have to keep checking and swapping the battery from one device to another, not a big deal but the battery does not last very long, maybe 3 weeks if your lucky. My charger unit is now faulty and not charging the battery. Lots of people report pressing the button and then they call me on the phone to ay they are outside. Today was another example. much better products than this, I wouldn't have another for free. I only checked amazon to see if I was within the 12 months to see if i could exchange it.Just buy a normal door bell or have cctv or a spy hole in your door, less hassle and cheaper.

Avoidable
This is a decent piece of kit and works pretty much as described (with a good feature list) with the following exceptions :1. The indoor range is only about 40 feet. Very disappointed with that as it wont work from my bedroom. I haven't tried outdoor range but I highly doubt it will work over 300m distance.2. The voice quality during intercom communication is also average to poor. Disappointing.3. Battery life is about 1.5 days with PIR working...2 days with PIR turned offUPDATEThe performance of this camera is steadily deteriorating in the sense that the PIR functionality is becoming slowly unusable. The detection has become slower and hence by the time the indoor device wakes up to the movement at the door it is too late (several seconds delay). Disappointing performance.

Result great! One word of warning
Used this as a call system for my remote electrically operated gates. After an initial problem with nearby shrubs waving in the wind and triggering the pir, I mounted the camera in a separate enclosure to limit it's field of view. Result great! One word of warning, do not mount the camera unit so that the sun can shine directly into the pir or it may well fail prematurely.

A useful addition to the piece of mind
A useful addition to the piece of mind. Well designed and if you can power the unit from the mains will automatically record all movements.
