not a toy but can be used as one
My 2.5 y/o son loves it. It is durable.

Good for youngest beginners or for outdoor ukulele
This is a plastic ukulele so it's not going to sound the same as a ukulele made out of wood. This is the first plastic ukulele I have owned, but I found the sound quality good. I found it easy to play and mine does not have an issue with high action. The body and headstock glow nicely and for a very long time.I would recommend it for two purposes: 1) small children who want to learn but need a sturdier ukulele, 2) anyone who wants a plastic ukulele for playing outside. If you are a beginner a good laminate ukulele in the same price range would be better.

Nice little soprano ukelele; great for trips and around water.
This is not a toy. It sounds pretty decent for a plastic instrument, and I've tested out wood soprano ukes which sounded a lot worse! It comes with Aquila nylgut strings and an unpadded backpack-style drawstring gig bag to carry it in. I totally agree with other reviewers that the strings ssttttreeeeetttchhhhh amazingly for the first week or so. I tuned it sharp a couple notes to shorten that process, then it settled in. The fretboard is not too high or low and the frets are in the right places. Barre chords are pretty easy and are not "tinny". I'm planning on taking this water resistant instrument on some boat trips, where I would not want to risk my wood ukelele.

A fun, go anywhere ukulele
I own a traditional concert-size ukulele, a full electric ukulele, an acoustic-electric ukulele, and a banjo ukulele, neither of which I am comfortable bringing on the boat or to the beach. I bought this for its ability to go where the others may get damaged, and to be fully honest, because it glows in the dark, which is awesome. As it is constructed of plastic, I was not expecting much in terms of sound quality. That said, it actually has a pretty good sound. Granted, it does not have the richness and warmth of my Cordoba concert ukulele, but it sounds pretty nice. Its tone is definitely better than a "toy," which others have referred to it as in other reviews, and rivals some entry-level soprano ukuleles constructed of wood.As with any other ukulele, new strings take time and frequent adjustment to eventually hold their tune. I have played it for a couple of hours in total since I got it yesterday, and after frequent re-tuning the strings are starting to hold their tune. I see that others have returned it for not staying in tune. Give it time and the strings will stretch, as with any other ukulele.Overall, this is a fun little ukulele that can go where others may not fare so well. I intend to take it to the beach, on the boat, and when I go hiking.

Solid uke, never disappointed with KALA
I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying the string don’t hold the tune. It takes a few days for them to stretch out properly, so be patient, I have Águila strings on all 4 of my ukes and wouldn’t use anything else. I’ve been playing for a couple hours now and the strings are starting to hold. That being said, this is my 3rd Kala uke (MK-SS and KA-CG) and I am not disappointed. I think it sounds great for a plastic Uke that you can take anywhere. I purchased it to keep in my office where I work with special needs children who all want a turn on the “little guitar”. I’ve also read people saying the strings are too high off the fretboard but I haven’t found that at all. Probably not a starter uke as you’re not going to get the exact same sound and resonance one expects, but great for travel, boating, and working with kids

Great... In theory
In theory, I love this uke. I've got 6 ukes or so, and wanted to try this one out as a possible recommendation for families of young beginning uke students. It's fun to play, with a bright sound. I love that I can haul it anywhere and not worry about banging it around, getting it wet, or leaving it in a hot car. I take a uke EVERYWHERE with me, so this is a great benefit. That being said, I have a problem with a design flaw and therefore will not recommend to students. The saddle and bridge are a molded piece of plastic, and are not serviceable. Unfortunately, the bridge is tipped too deeply, resulting in the C string of my uke making contact with the saddle and creating a buzz. The action on the first fret is also uncomfortably high, especially for starting students who haven't built stamina and strength in their fret fingers.I attempted to restring the uke to remedy the buzzing issue, to no avail. After reading other complaints online about this issue, I did the quick fix of another player and trimmed down a toothpick to stuff under the strings, immediately behind the existing saddle. This elevated the strings enough to get rid of the buzzing, so it's OK to play now... but if it hadn't been past my return period, I'd have gladly returned my Waterman and put the money toward an Outdoor Ukulele instead. I plan to pass this down to someone and buy myself an Outdoor.

I'll admit: I bought it for the glow.
I know it's a gimmick, but... GLOW!I don't even care that it's a weaker glow, I'm sure that brightness was sacrificed in favor of sound quality. Wisely, and successfully.I was surprised by the depth and warmth of the sound - imo, better than most (typically on the cheaper end) solid wood sopranos that I've heard. If you want a good warm sound, it's typically best just to get a concert size or larger, so I truly wasn't expecting such quality based on size alone, let alone the material, cost, and gimmick-ness.That said, I'm having to re-tune every hour of play or so. I'm picky, but it still seems frequent. I don't think it's the instrument, though, just the strings. If I remember I'll come back to edit this review when I replace the strings.UPDATE: It was the strings, and they stabilized after about 2 weeks of play. Was extremely annoying, though, and you may want to consider simply starting with better strings.Update Cont.: The chrome coating on the frets does not last long and soon flakes, creating a *shudder* glitter-like substance that similarly resists persistent removal. It doesn't look great, but it does feel gratifying, as if you've been playing it like an empassioned coffee addict who hasn't slept in weeks. I'll post a pic if I can figure out how to.Hands down best campfire, hiking, etc. Uke.

Exceeded expectations!
I did my research on Kalas and Watermans - the consensus was Watermans were usually of standard to low quality (compared to actual wooden ukes), and they tend to have buzzing issues. I bought it anyway because I could use a sturdy uke, and for a Kala, this was a steal. I am very satisfied with it! The strings were stretched in a couple of days, and the sound is amazing for a plastic uke.The decals are kind of smudgy (as pictured), but I'm not too bothered by it. It glows pretty faintly in the dark, and the neck doesn't so that kind of defeats the purpose of playing in the dark - but that's fine with me because I didn't buy this for the gimmick. The drawstring bag that came with it is super neat - much preferred over the typical ukulele-shaped bag as it's easy to pull out and stuff in.Tl;dr 10/10 I love it.

Fabulous!
Love this uke! I have several really expensive ukuleles. But this one is fast becoming my go to uke. Very little sustain but has a really wonderful sound for playing certain types of music, especially funk!Yeah, you may have a solid wood AAAAA quality instrument, which sounds spectacular but I have one that glows in the dark!Love it and thouroughly recommed it.
