Great marketing, design and concept, but this thing is terrible.
Great marketing, design and concept, but this thing is terrible. It's very inaccurate, maybe 5' off at times. I suppose it's only as good as its communication with GPS. The app is remedial. Not much you can do with it, which is why there are no tutorials - there's nothing to learn! I now have this listed used on e bay because I'm outside of my return window. Do yourself a favor and buy a traditional measuring wheel with a brake and reset on the handle.

Flimsy
The whole thing feels weak and flimsy. The phone holder is total junk. I replaced mine with a motorcycle phone mount that works much better (see picture). The wheel feels like it is gonna fall off at any moment. Its wobbly and has a cheap feel. Accuracy depends on terrain. If you’re rolling on gravel its not very accurate. If the terrain is bumpy, not accurate. I measure driveways so for the most part it does ok. This product has potential, but needs to be redesigned to be more sturdy. For $400 it needs to be bulletproof. Theres another measuring tool called Moasure, different concept, same idea. I think I’m gonna buy it and give it a try. The reviews for it are much better. Wish i had seen it before buying this one.

Cool Tech Product for any Landscaper
My husband, who has been talking about this product for months, absolutely loves it! He's only used it a handful of times, but it works great. He set up the app so quickly next thing I knew he was testing it out. It came in a medium sized box and was SUPER lightweight. It was so easy to assemble, I'd say about 30 sec to 1 min to assemble. One thing I wish I knew before buying is that you can't use the tool without your phone, so if his phone is dead, he would not be able to use it.

Great measurement wheel on flat ground but not on slopes
It took a moment at first to get wheel dialed in on measuring are for sodding . At first I tried to measure whole entire area but it seemed to be to much area so I broke area into thirds and it worked great on flat ground .If you are measuring on slopes it can not measure accurately

Hugely disappointing.
I really really want to like this tool. I’m a construction estimator by trade and I use a measuring wheel every day. For years I’ve been trying to think of a way to integrate a measuring with with software that can creat a map of my layout. I had high hopes I finally found it. Let me start by saying if you’re a concrete contractor, or landscaper, and need to figure out square footage of odd shapes, this thing is probably fine. But for linear measurements it’s pretty useless. Firstly, there is very little in the way of instruction. The Carta comes with a few page manual that tells you how to turn it on and pair it, and use the basic functions, but that’s about it. Assuming like most things, there’s a more comprehensive manual on their website is a big mistake. There is little to no information on their website. Not even a “contact us” section to ask questions. Certainly no manuals. The company does have instructional videos on YouTube. Six of them, less than a minute each. Ok, maybe I can at least use it to draw maps that I can then include in my estimates. Nope. You can export their drawing files, but it’s in some proprietary file format nothing on my computer can open. Well at least I can draw on top of a satellite image as shown in all the photos they show. Nope. You can draw your map, then take a screen shot of a satellite image then lay the measurements over the screenshot and scale it yourself. Then it once again becomes a goofy file you can’t do anything with.I can’t stress this enough: If you need a tool that calculates the square footage of odd shapes, and you do it often, this tool it probably worth it. If you need a wheel to take linear measurements this is so much less convenient than a normal wheel. Not to mention more expensive. As it stands now, I guess I’ll just let this thing gather dust and hope they improve the software until it becomes useful to me. My guess though is that Plott has no intention of improving the platform, they’ll just sell enough of them to make some money then move on to some other gimmick product. The ONLY reason it’s getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because I could see it as some use to a very limited segment of the people who buy it. Dear Plott, if you made any provisions for buyers to contact you and ask questions, you could avoid further reviews like this one.

Almost accurate but no
I sell sod installation. The accuracy of measuring square footage is of huge importance. Not only do we need to be fast to estimate more homes per day but we need to be accurate.Speed: this will allow you to estimate at least one more property per day and help you show off some tech in the process.Accuracy: you will be about 20% under the actual amount of material needed to finish a sod job. So if you want to install pallet after pallet for free then this wheel is for you.We have used mechanical measuring wheels, Moasure, satellite tools, and lasers. When I heard about PLOTT I thought I found the best tool on the planet. I mean it looks so good. The start and stop points actually line up nicely so you feel like it must be accurate. Don’t let that fool you.Getting accurate area measurements is what we thought we were getting when selling over 40 sod jobs before the season started. Then we started installing the grass. One job after the other kept coming up short. We had to plant 20 percent more grass than the measurement was calling for. After ten jobs we estimate we will loose over $50,000 in lost revenue from the inaccurate square footage the PLOTT was calculating.Tech support says just use this for estimating and not for use with final quotes. They should print that on the box.You may think at $250 this is an expensive measuring wheel. It is more expensive if you actually start using it. Run!

It does not take accurate measurements
I wanted this to work so bad as it would make life estimating projects a lot easier but alas it doesn't take accurate measurement and clients do not like it too much when your measurements are off by %20 and you have to increase the price on them.
