Comparing it to the Original wax
I'd like to comment on my first impressions with the extra grit before I compare the two. First off, concerning what others have said:-It doesn't leave your beard feeling like there's sand in it. The grit is very fine and I only notice it when rubbing it in my hands. Don't worry about the grit!-it is very dark, so if you have a white beard I wouldn't recommend it.-The smell is strong in the can, but will die down after a little while. I don't think that it smells much like liquorice from the anise, more spicy like clove. As to the smell I like it a lot. The original does have a stronger anise ( liquorice smell) and I like the scent of that one too.-It's very easy to rub into your hands and the beard. I would say softer then the original wax.-now as to hold! Honest Amish says this is on par with the original wax, but I have found it to be slightly lighter than the original. As far as hold goes in the lineup I'd say (lightest to heaviest ) HD beard balm(light), extra grit wax(light/medium ), original wax(medium ).-also, as advertised, it works very well as a hair balm. I have short hair about an inch or so on top and tight on the sides.-Has a matte finish to it, and the original wax has more of a shine. So all in all I like this wax for what it is. Great smell. Doesn't make my beard feel sandy like I thought it would. Light/mid hold(works best with a freshly shampoo'd beard, I know some only shampoo a few time per week). Works in my hair. If I would to choose one over the other I'd think I'd go with the Original wax over the extra grit(but that could change), as I like the stronger hold and I don't mind the shine. I've never tried the original in my hair, just beard. As with all honest amish products its all made from quality ingredients and they're a great company. Hope this was helpful. And beard on!*update*After using the extra grit for a few more days some other things I've noticed.-after applying to a clean beard out of the shower, it seems to almost dry and is not waxy like the original.- it give my beard a lot of body, more than the original I'd say.The more I use this wax the more I like it! I think that maybe I now like this more than the original. Definitely try it out and don't judge too quickly.

The "Grit" gets the job done
Exceptional product. I have yet to find anything that comes even close to the quality of this beard wax. To start this is not a girly beard wax for only styling. I'd even argue that its probably not for everyone if you are partial to a specific perception of what a beard wax should do for the beard or how it should ultimately improve the aesthetic quality of your beard. I have a very coarse curly beard that with age has grown to develop a lot white hair. This beard wax does an amazing job at sculpting my bread when wet ( which is when I prefer to use it ) or when its dry. If you read the ingredients label on the box you will find that this beard wax does double duty: provides enough stiffness to sculpt the beard but also is a super amazing emollient rich beard wax. I said super emollient rich; not greasy. Okay so now for the compromise: I've read a few reviews on here about the scent and grit tint of the beeswax. Here is my opinion: I don't like scents that smell "manufactured". This beeswax smells earthy and natural where licorice root is one of the main ingredients of the aroma therapeutic oil composition. For some it might not be a preferred scent. I happen to like it very much because it is consistent with other scents I enjoy like Malin and Goetz Cannibus Oil and Aesop Marrakesh Intense. About the tint. I tried once tinting my beard with over the counter beard color. I'll never do that again. The tint of this beard wax is not an artificial color or dye. The grit color is natural and for me it helps to balance out the differences in tone in my beard. Overall I'd say depending on your beard type and grooming preferences, this beard wax is an amazing product and it does exactly what its advertised to do.

Quality product, but not as much hold as the Original Beard Wax
Everyone has different experiences, this is mine. This product may work better or worse for you than it did for me.After using Honest Amish's "regular strength" beard wax for about a year and a half, I decided to try out the Extra Grit Beard Wax. I just finished the tin the other day. It lasted me about 3.5 months. My beard is about 4 in long and is very curly. I shower in the morning, then apply beard oil (homemade) followed up by a Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berry-sized amount of Extra Grit beard wax. Here is my review.Grit: I believe the grit in Extra Grit is clay. Again, your mileage may vary, but some of the other reviews mentioning the grit seemed a little over dramatic after using this product myself. I never noticed any of the grit coming off onto my clothes or even my hands as I touched my beard throughout the day. I never noticed any on my pillow nor on my SO's face. It wasn't "like rubbing dirt into my beard." The grit was noticeable in the hands but all but disappeared in the beard. After working the product into my beard, I would have to gives my hands a quick wipe on my towel as there was grit in the wrinkles of my palms, but it was never hard to get clean, and in fact was quite easy.Hold: The hold of Extra Grit is why I liked the product, but didn't love it: 4 stars vs 5. Seeing this product labelled as "Beard Wax: Extra Grit!" made me think the hold would be similar to that of the original Honest Amish beard wax, if not stronger, but I found it to be more along the lines of a heavy duty beard balm. The product itself was softer than the original which did make it easier to scoop out with your thumb vs the original, but in my experience the on-the-beard hold was weaker. If I were to list beard products in order of increasing hold, it would be as follows: Au natural, Beard Oil, Beard Balm, Extra Grit Beard Wax, Original Beard Wax. This product would be perfect if you need something a little stronger than a balm but a little weaker than the Original Beard Wax, but for me, I need a little more hold than Extra Grit can provide.Scent: Extra Grit has a stronger licorice/clove scent than the original beard wax. It is not unpleasant and not overpowering and fades after a while, which in my book is a good thing.Overall, I am glad I tried Extra Grit out but I will be going back to the Honest Amish Original beard wax. Since they are about the same price, I would recommend trying Extra Grit on your search for beard products that work with your own beard.
