Great
This was recommended reading for my Entrepreneur class. It makes economics understandable by using everyday language and relevant analogies and examples. I recommend it for anyone who wants to learn what makes our economy tick.

Didn't Get Hooked
I started reading it, but it failed to really grab my attention so I moved on to Freakonomics instead. Personally, I felt that Freakonomics was much more interesting, but to each their own I suppose.

By the middle of this book you will start thinking as an economist
Interesting book for a person who is a beginner in economics.

A good intro book, but ultimately thin on science.
For initiates who aren't familiar with how to construct an economic argument, this book is a wonderful intro. All too often I find myself having to explain to others really basic economic concepts in order to fully dissect their arguments, and for someone who doesn't have any background in economics this book could be a fun first step. There are some kernels here that caused me to reflect, but having decent familiarity with the principles of the author's thesis, reading felt a bit like reviewing a peer's book and not anything ground-breaking.The number of just-so stories is a bit hard to ignore. These are the "nice" arguments that don't have any rigor. They're generally examples of valid arguments, but without any data to support their premises they're not of much use. Further, the uninitiated reader might take them as truth without knowing to look for the gaps in the argumentation; if people could do that to Freakonomics, it will certainly happen here.I've loaned this book to a friend, so while it's not for me, I think it's good for someone.

An extensive miscellaneous column
Two hundred pages of the book are entirely composed by the questions posed by the author's students, and the answers, which mostly come up with distinctive and often interesting views about mundane matters. Whether it be shopping in department store, a hotel reservation, settling the dinner bill or rent-a-car, a reader is bound to realize that the decisions he takes on many of those occasions, at the end are not utterly his own. The author even invites us to weigh up the prices of certain goods and services, explaining, for instance, why a black Apple laptop computer is more expensive than identically configured white one (p.83) or why do taxicab fares have both a fixed and a variable component. At the same time the word "almost" in the title of the book, properly reflects its essence, because it is an interesting read not only for sensitive buyers, but also for more inquisitive minds. The author comes up with the explanations as to why, for example, women's clothes always button from the left, while men's clothes always from the right, and at the end even speculates, that an average men's life would be more stressful if polygamy was allowed. Although, the answers almost inevitably dance around the law of supply and demand, the economics ideas you will encounter appear only in the context of examples drawn from familiar experiences. Some factological errors (it is mentioned, for example, that dissolution of former Soviet Union happened in 1989) are compensated by a healthy sense of humor. Definitely, the book for everyone, who wishes to trigger off the autopilot from his daily routine.
