As expected
This is pretty much the same as the more expensive brand of hemp rope-wick that has northern Euro vibe diacritics in the name. You'll survive equally well with this cheaper version. The rope looks and feels like actual hemp (and smells like it when burning). Sheds fibers like hemp as well. The rope is a bit stiff because it's impregnated with a wax that I would guess is paraffin (I'd be shocked if it's beeswax). You can still fray the end slightly to make it easier to light.I have not yet been able to form an ember in the rope directly using sparks from old-school flint and steel, even after charring the end and fraying it; this doesn't particularly surprise me. (This sort of thing is more designed to be a stage 2 tinder to ignite using a stage 1 ember from something like charcloth, punkwood, or tinder fungus). Lights just fine with a flame from a lighter or match or an arc from a plasma lighter, for those who prefer to mix their old school with new school.Note, folks who think the aluminum sleeve around the rope is a ferrocerium "flint" you can strike sparks from: Don't be absurd; read the description. It's an aluminum sleeve whose primary purposes are:(1) hold the rope stiffly while the end burns,(2) control the size of the flame by exposing more or less of the lit end (similar to a kerosene lantern wick), and(3) snuff the flame when your done burning the rope.A distant fourth use for the sleeve might be a place to store the charred end so it doesn't blacken stuff during storage and transport. It's not really even useful as a "pocket bellows", which should come as no surprise (as it's pretty obvious from the item photos).

Interesting but not necessary
This makes a nice extended burning “long match.” Once ignited, one can easily control the size of flame and length of burn by manipulating the cord in and out of the tube. It is also easy to extinguish and pack. Using it to light a gas or alcohol stove or to fire up a folding stove would be a good use. However, don’t expect this to easily light using ONLY flint & steel. It simply does not take a low temperature spark by itself. If you spark some char cloth and then use the fluff as a tinder bundle, you can blow it to flame, but if you’re wanting to use ONLY flint & steel, this tool will not be saving any time. Now with a ferro rod this works quite nicely. With the end fluffed it ignites pretty easily. The tube is octagonal and easy to hold. Be careful because it can get hot if the flame is long lasting. Also, I wouldn’t try using it as a bellows as your head can get too close to the fire. So, is it worth buying? Your choice. It’s a nice addition to a fire kit but it isn’t a necessary part of one.

Fantastic
This is a great little item. I tried one out with a ferro rod and it lit right up on one stroke. This is a great item to have if you have marginal tinder. I recommend to anyone who spends time in the woods.

Another great addition to the survival kit.
I put these in my Bug out bag and a few in the camping ruck. Just another trick in your bag to help start a fire when things are rough.

Seasoned these strike easily and are great for moving fires
I’ll admit it, I suck at fires… and when I first got these, I thought I still did… tried striking with the tiny ferro rod/striker and was going to give up… lit the hemo wick with a lighter to play with it and it was great - easy to re-light too! So then I tried a real ferro rod with an ax sharpener as a striker - easily lights. It’s a fire you can carry and stick under things to move fire. The aluminum (an excellent heat sync) handle gets warm, hot, quickly… I’m using the hemp cord at the knot end as a handle and the aluminum to control the size of the flame and to snuff it out when done. As long as you are purposeful and quick with your fire/use - it’s a great tool!

Brilliant
I love this. Was looking for something a little more robust than storm matches that could be lit from a flint / spark. This is perfect. Light, well made and water proof. You can light it from a spark with ease and it'll burn for about an hour without getting blown out. Perfect if your tinder isn't 100% dry. Can't fault it at all. Brilliant product.
