I’ve read this series at least five times and can never get enough of the characters. David and his wife, who worked with him on these books, built a rich and vibrant world. The story pulls you in and I find it impossible to put it down (even after reading them so many times!). You won’t be disappointed.

These 5 books follow up the 5 book Belgariad set. Also, read the Polgara and Belgarath books after you finish the other 10 books. Eddings takes us on an epic saga, focusing on a single generation, though often referencing previous generations. It is a tale of good vs evil, a battle that has been fought many times before, but this series leads up to the final battle that will end the divide once and for all, either for good or for evil. The characters are rich, deep, and well fleshed out. You become really invested in their concerns. It has everything an epic story should have. I will not give away any details, just read it and see what I mean. There is laughter, love, sorrow, loss, battles won and battles lost, friends and foes, supporters, traitors, and protectors. Everything in Eddings' fantasy world has a rhyme and a reason, which you learn bit by bit over the course of this 10 book saga. Eddings does not fail to cover the full scope of his character's lives, from the most exciting to the most mundane, and yet under the skilled hands of himself and sometimes also his wife, even the mundane is described in rich and interesting detail. What I wouldn't give to eat in Polgara's kitchen just once! I have read many fantasy and sci-fi series, but Eddings remains my favorite author, and this series my favorite of his, though all are superb. So sad that he and his wife are gone and we will have no more from them. I content myself with re-reading what we do have, and I am thankful for it.

The Belgariad and The Mallorean are basically the same story, with many similarities. Still an excellent read, I replaced my old original books which got worn due to reading every 2-3 years. If I read the phrase 'wise decision' any more I'll scream! SCREAM!

Read them when I was in my 20's, bought and reread 30 years later - very enjoyable and a 'nice easy read'

The story is just next level.
