Easy to install, pay attention to stem size
I used this clock mechanism to repair an outdoor clock that wouldn't keep time any more. The decorative hands look much nicer than the original, too.As other reviewers mention, pay attention to the stem size. Mine looked "about" 1/2" on the old, and when I received the new one, it was much longer than I anticipated. I should have ordered a size smaller. For my application it was easy enough to install 3 fender washers I had in the junk drawer since depth in the back was not an issue.A couple of things I learned to make the install go smoother:1) If the back of the clock isn't on a firm surface due to the shape of the clock, put something under it. I used a bible. The plastic seems a little fragile and it takes a non-trivial amount of force to put the hour hand on.2) When installing the hour hand, carefully press with your thumbnails at both sides near the connection. It's a friction fit, and the hands will bend VERY easily. Do not put any pressure what-so-ever on the hand itself (only the base) as you will warp and damage it. Push it down close (but not touching) the brass threads. You need it far enough away from the minute hand that they don't interfere.3) Installing the battery is difficult if you do it the "normal" way. Since this doesn't have a spring for the negative terminal, (just a bent metal tab) the solution is super simple. Put the positive end in first, and the negative will slip right in on the tab.Overall, very happy. See my photo of the finished product. It's the large green clock on vinyl siding (on our screened in back porch).

Here's some dimensions that might help.
This came promptly and worked great for me. I did have to add spacers to the back so the hands would not rub the plastic face cover. The 1/2" designation was nebulous to me so here are some specific measurements for what came to me. Housing 56 mm square sides. 13 mm deep back to front. Threaded shaft diameter = 7.5 mm, Threaded shaft length = 16 mm, plastic part of shaft for hour hand length 4 mm, metal part for minute hand length = 4 mm. Second hand inserts into the minute shaft. Hands radius, that is from shaft center to tip of hands Hour + 72 mm, minute =103 mm, sec,= 101 mm.These are important to know so you'll know if they will fit into your clock. I could have used a shorter shaft but ordered the longest one knowing I had room in the back to add washers. I had saved the hands from the old unit since the shaft configuration seems standard across every face size I've seen.

nearly perfect
The mechanism works perfect and the serpentine hands embrace the dark wood clock I made. Only fault was that the hour hand would not fit and ended up breaking it trying to push it on the shaft. Been making clocks for a while now and realize that some hands are a little tight to fit and so I am careful not to damage them as most of the hands I get are flimsy to say the least. But this hour hand just would not go on despite carefully using my special tool to fit it. As this is a special customized clock made for a friend that specified serpentine hands, I have to go look on line to find another set.

Excellent clock movement
Bought one these six years ago. It kept good time for six years before it finally died. I thought that was pretty good for what I had paid for it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a replacement was cheaper than what I had paid for the first one. I would definitely recommend this clock movement.

Great! I just bought the wrong size
The post on which the hands sit was just a little too tall for me to use this on the clock I'm fixing, but it's still a great product. I'm ordering the 1/4" version now that I've learned my lesson... and I'll use this in another project someday. I hesitate to do this, but minus 1 star for the battery being a bit more trouble to get in than necessary... over-all, a great product if you're looking for a replacement clock movement.

Simply did not work (AGAIN)
I purchased one of these several months ago to install in a clock face that I had from a nonworking clock. Price was OK, but not sensational. I ordered this first movement when I had other things to order from Amazon, to get my price over $25 for the free shipping. Long story short, it did not work, as the second hand would quit working, and just bump around at the 12:00 number. I played with it for several weeks making sure it was not catching on anything, i.e. front glass, minute and hour hand, etc, new battery, but nothing worked. I just gave up on it and figured for 12 bucks, I will not return it, due to shipping costs, packaging, going to the USPS, etc. Then I had another clock quit and figured, what the heck, I will buy another one and fix the other clock, figuring the first one was a fluke. I bought another one when I needed a few more things from Amazon, same deal on shipping as before. Low and behold, same problem. These clock movements are not worth a hoot. FOR YOUR OWN WELL BEING, DO NOT MESS WITH THESE WORKS. I will say that with this fixture, I only have to get on a stool about 4 times a week to restart it. When they sell you this POC they figure, they will help with your cardiovascular system through exercise. Again: DO NOT BUY.

Perfect fit for my wall clock
Converted a 35 year old mechanical Seth Thomas wall clock which had stopped working. My cabinet thickness was one-half inch and the unit fits perfectly. Simple to install with instructions given and keeps very good time. Haven't had it long enough to judge durability or accuracy over the long run. Only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is the picture shows a hanger bracket which was not in the package. Luckily, I did not need it.

MISSING NUT, THIN HANDS, AND DIFFICULT BATTERY INSTALLATION
No nut was included for the minute hand and the nut from the old clock motor was too big. The hands supplied are very thin. Installing the AA cell is a bit difficult as the clock motor contacts are poorly designed. It may be made in USA, but one would not know this based on workmanship and materials. It does seem to keep time in the short run, long term accuracy to be posted in the future. I doubt this clock motor will last 25 years like the old one did.UPDATE July 8, 2012: Runs slow by about one second every two days, or about three minutes slow per year. Not bad.
