Planeta Italian extra virgin olive oil comes from two different family-owned olive groves. The first is the centuries-old grove named Ulmo, which surrounds the family's winery in Sambuca di Sicilia. The other is a younger grove called Capparrina and is situated on fertile land by the sea near Menfi, in the province of Agrigento. Both groves grow three varieties of olive: Cerasuola, Biancolilla and Nocellara de Belice. The latter represents approximately 60% of total production and is typical of the area. It is recognized for its large-sized fruit and produces an oil with a very distinctive flavor. The other two varieties, Cerasuola and Biancolilla, have a much more delicate flavor. The oil has a wonderful green color and a fresh bouquet of herbs, citrus fruit, artichokes and tomatoes. It has a delicate, full rather than spicy flavor. Get this remarkable and scarce, small production olive oil while it lasts!

This Planeta extra virgin olive oil is not as deeply flavorful to me as the Paesano unfiltered extra virgin oil I love immensely
I've tried many versions of olive oil (both filtered and unfiltered) and this one is very good filtered oil. Its vegetal / herbaceous overtones really come through but compared to my all time favorite olive oil, this one is not as intense. My favorite extra virgin olive oil is Paesano Organic Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil - 34oz which has a deep peppery bite and is very rich and earthyI rarely cook with olive oil and use it to season bread, pasta, salad, rice, soups, etc. Although this Planeta is indeed a premium tasting oil, Paesano is still my favorite.

supreme
Among the 50 or so varieties of EVOO I've consumed in the past few years, this ranks among the top 2 or 3 -- one to die for.
