Some reviewers need to learn how to use a scale
I’ve been taking these because there’s a decent amount of data out there about the effects of EPA and the need for supplementation with a vegan diet. I theoretically consume enough omega 3 through flax, chia, and hemp seeds daily, but I have no ability to measure how effective my body is at converting ALA to EPA, DHA, DPA etc., hence supplementation - current research indicates that we are not very efficient at this conversion, meaning that tens of grams of consumed ALA might only convert to far less than a gram of other omega 3s (I do not have the studies in front of me so the numbers I’m quoting are not accurate, but you get the idea). However, some studies indicate that high daily consumption of ALA from plant sources over months/years can, in some individuals, make the body more efficient at converting ALA. At the time of this review, we really don’t have concrete answers unfortunately. I imagine it’ll be a few more years before there’s more robust data. In the meantime, I’m supplementing with this. There’s definitely an algal odor, though nothing strong or in any way offensive. I’ve taken them on an empty stomach and still have yet to experience any GI upset or flavorful burps. So, if those things are your concerns, rest assured that a lot of people who’ve written about their experience are irrelevant, because it seems that whatever issue there was with the odor and taste has been addressed. So, no complaints on my end - except for the fact that it’s $40 for 30 days. That’s insane for omega 3s, but you’ll quickly find there’s not really many other options for vegans - especially not with this EPA content. I’ve scoured Amazon for anything better, and there is a liquid version that’s a bit cheaper from another brand, that also includes vitamins D3 and K2.Oh and yeah uh, kitchen scales aren’t accurate enough to weigh such small amounts lol. Their gradations are in grams - you need a scale that goes to a tenth of a gram, or ideally to a hundredth for proper accuracy. No idea how that review doesn’t violate Amazon’s policies.

Raised hdls by 10! Great stuff, small taste to over come!
I have not missed a dose of fish oil for over 15 years (3-5g a day). I've always taken high qualtiy oils too, from nordic naturals to carlsons, to krill and Alaskan fish oil. I had blood work 3 months ago. My hdls were already pretty good at 66, however I began implementing these as an alternative for high qualtiy omega-3s with less mercury content than fish oil can have. I retested my lipids for the fun of it, and my hdls are now 76. I have been eating a healthy diet, eating fish twice a week with around 100g of fat a day (normal for me for years), along with my typical exercise, and intermittent fasting (11+ years now). My hdl has never been higher, and being that I haven't changed much in my diet lately, I must attribute my raised in hdls to these incredible oils.TASTE and SMELL:Yes. It's there, however a small price to pay for such high quality, omega-3s. I do taste the bottom of the sea floor if I burp after taking them, but it lasts only seconds. I combat this by taking 1 cinnamon with them. Generally does the trick. I will continue to purchase these in place of fish oils. I love these.

Ooof magooof
I bought this for the amount of EPA which is superior to fish oil by quite a substantial amountThe smell is horrible and makes it quite difficult to swallow… the burps are horrible as well. That being said, if you can overlook the obvious horrible smell of dried seaweed this is a great option to get your EPAs in

The good and bad...
The good: They have a decent amount of EPA and DHA and contain no carrageenan. As of right now, this is the best vegan omega supplement I've seen with the EPA/DHA profile and carrageenan free. The bad: They smell and taste pretty bad, upset my stomach, caused me gas and bloating, fairly expensive.Store them in the refrigerator and the smell/taste is a bit better, but I had to stop taking them after a couple weeks because of the GI distress they were causing me.

Best price compared to other Vegan brands
Far better EPA to total fat ratio then most any other brand. Cheaper brands are cheaper because they're filled with useless fat. What you need for the health benefits is EPA not DHA and not the not omega 3 fats cheaper brands are loaded with. If you're okay with fish oil then it can be a cheaper option to get the amazon brand fish oil but for the vegan option or for this option that doesn't cause fish breath, then Smart for Life Algae Omega 3 is the best option. As of October 2020 the price is excellent you can't beat it.

Seems to be working great!
Seems to be great! Just regular capsules. Like taking any other supplement. The important thing to me is that it's animal-friendly (produced without harming animals). Good job, y'all!

Horrible smell and taste
The ratio or EPA to DHA in this supplement is just what I was looking for, but the taste and smell is extremely fishy. I tried taking it twice and could barely get it down. Once I did, it made me burp a lot which brought back that awful taste each time.
