The movie went in a lot of directions I wasn't expecting out of it (and that's a good thing in this case)
This is a movie I'd been wanting to see for a very long time, but never had the opportunity to until recently, and let me tell you: it was worth the wait. The movie went in a lot of directions I wasn't expecting out of it (and that's a good thing in this case), and genuinely managed to surprise me with where the plot ACTUALLY went. It very much deconstructs the usual dynamic of this kind of 'superhero vs supervillain' setup, albeit while obviously parodying Superman in both Megamind and Metro Man's backstories (plus the latter's powers). And naturally, being a Dreamworks movie, the CG is fantastic. Though Megamind often looks a bit... odd, it's undoubtedly intentional. And of course, Megamind's definitely right when discussing the difference between a 'villain', and a 'SUPERvillain'; his presentation is fantastic. When he arrives, he makes sure you KNOW IT.Also, gratuitous use of very fitting rock music is always a plus. Megamind's got good taste.

Wonderful movie
I love this movie!!! Once upon a time I owned every Disney VHS there was, and then, well, VHS was a thing of the past (can you imagine!!!?) and my final ability to play my beloved movies broke for the umpteenth time and I just couldn't justify fixing it again. I tried converting them to DVD or digital media, but no go--I finally just gave them away and am in the process of rebuilding my collection. For any body who hasn't seen Megamind (is there really anybody out there who hasn't?) this is a wonderful movie with a positive message that you will remember years down the road. But underneath it all, there is an endearing story that has earned this movie its' place in the "Classic" hall of fame.Amazon Digital is wonderful--it's nice to have this movie there in my forever library so I can watch it whenever and wherever I wish. The process was simple--press buy and viola! It showed up in my library.

I recomend this film in any version, but the 3D version is spectacular -- if you like that sort of thing.
The movie itself is a clever funny animated film that is fun for the whole family. I can watch this movie several times and still enjoy the humor in it. I bought this is 3D. While the 2D version is great, the 3D version is one of the best 3D films I have seen with many (too many to count) effects popping off the screen. I recomend this film in any version, but the 3D version is spectacular -- if you like that sort of thing.

This movie has some fun, unexpected turns
This movie has some fun, unexpected turns, great voice acting, and great visuals and action sequences.I especially like the writing for the strong female lead, and the idea of redemption which I was not anticipating. In some ways, it is a little more emotionally mature than your average cartoon, and fun for the whole family.

Mega awesome!
I had seen this movie year ago, but I picked it up from A on Prime Day 2016. I watched it with my young daughter, who loves The Incredibles and similar stories. I enjoyed this move a lot. Mostly because I like the humor of the film and the really creative role-swap where the good guy dies early int eh film and the bad guy gets super-bored becuase he has complete control with no opposition.I won't spoil any more of the film, but I really like the direction that these characters take. It has some of the wonderful super-gadgets that you find in the Dispicable Me films (yes, this was first), think dehydration ray, and explores some elements of super hero angst from an adult character's point of view like we see in the Incredibles. This review is just a rambling mess. . . watch this movie, you won't be disappointed unless you are very jaded and negative.PS. Despite the statement in the movie made by the bad guy (good guy?) that there is no Tooth Fairy,. Easter Bunny, Santa Claus. . . I think this can be a great film to share with your children. I really like that hte characters are somewhat complex and not 100% good or evil. Introducing a gray area in a superhero film is a pretty modern thing to do.

What if the villain wasn't such a bad person who just wanted some love?
Megamind was a reversal of the traditional superhero film. It focused upon the villain Megamind (Will Ferrell) instead of the hero. Megamind grew up the school reject, he always felt alone, and wanted to find love. The movie posed the question that if given the chance maybe the villain wasn’t a bad person after all.The movie begins with Megamind’s background. He landed on Earth from another planet when he was a child and was raised by convicts in a prison. He eventually went to school where he had no friends and was looked down upon. Eventually due to a twist of fate, he ended up with all the power but became bored of being the villain. He wanted a normal life instead of being the bad guy, which became the dilemma of the story, and an interesting plot twist.

A fun movie with a subtle message and excellent animation and plot
This is one of those movies that critics labelled as derivative and a copycat movie of other movies released at about the same. All of these criticisms are without foundation and complete rubbish.I sometimes suspect that after critics have given rave reviews for a series of movies of a certain genre they feel like they have to criticise the next one that comes along, or alternatively they have to praise one excessively over and above all the praise of earlier movies.Sadly for Megamind the critics decided that it was about time they criticized an animated movie. In fact some of the criticisms are so far removed from the plot of the movie or its humour and voice acting, I actually suspect that the critics in question havent actually seen it.I'm not suggesting this is Citizen Kane, but in its own little niche and it has made it's own little niche, it's fun. It's not a copy of the Incredibles or of Despicable Me, despite what the critics say. The humour mix is quite different and the message is different as well but more subtle. The Incredibles is about super heroes being castigated for being powerful and people fearing that power and it's also partly about greedy self-seeking people finding an opportunity to harass those who are trying to protect them because they can make money out of it.Despicable Me has a message that's closer to Megamind in as much as the villain in that story has been brought up by a villainous family and he's trying to meet the expectations of his mother and his fellow villains so it's peer and family pressure that it's really about and also about finding your own way and taking on responsibility, as with the orphans that Gru adopts. In other words it's also about growing up.Conversely MegaMind is about the duality of heroes and villains. Megamind is a villain because like Gru in Despicable Me he's been raised to be a villain, but also additionally because he looks different, and to people's minds villanous; people distrust him. As to the 'superhero' of the movie, he is actually no more heroic than the next person. He's been heroic because it's expected of him, because he's powerful and he looks heroic. He doesn't actually enjoy it that much and would prefer to take it easy and do his own thing.Whereas Megamind only enjoys being a villain because of the excitement, the challenge, the danger and the opportunity to prove himself and overcome great odds. He wants people to respect him. In other words many of qualities you usually see in a hero. The message is subtly different to the other two superhero or supervillain style movies it has been compared to and I think that's why in reality it fell flat with the critics. They came to the movie with their brains switched off, they thought it's a kid's movie it's not going to demand anything from us except a few chuckles.Well, it is funny, it has first rate animation and is tightly plotted, but it is yet another example of a good movie badly served by half asleep critics.

Mega movie
I love this film. Excellent animation great characters, cool story and it even made me laugh at the right times.Megamind has always been in the shadow of Metropolises top hero, a generic superman clone (Metroman) with all of Superman's powers. First having his rocket knocked of course so instead of being raised by rich but stupid parents he is raised by crooks in jail. In nursery he realises the only way he can beat his arch rival is by being bad a making him his nemesis. As you might have guess from the title Magamind is super smart but clumsy "evil" but his heart is in the right place. After year of planning scheming and battling what happen if he finally wins? Without a worthy hero out there Magamind must redefine himself, especially if he is to get the girl of his dreams. Not everything is at is seems.A great film, if you like superheroes, comedy, or just great stories this is well worth watching Megamind has the perfect balance brilliance, comedy, slapstick, and action.

The Megamind of Metro City
A CGI animated movie that puts it's own unique spin on Superhero stories. In this case, seeing it all through the eyes of the villain. An opening sequence narrated by main character Megamind [Will Ferrell] tells us his tale. Like Superman, sent to Earth as a baby as his planet died. But being big headed and blue skinned left him a misfit from the start. Not least alongside Metro Man [Brad Pitt]. Whilst the latter grew up to be the handsome superheroic protector of Metro City, Megamind had nofriends other than Minion [David Cross] his faithful fish sidedkick, and was destined to be the bad guy.And so things have proceeded since. Megamind and Metro Man have battled many times. Megamind has almost won a few of these encounters.Caught in the middle of all this is Roxanne Ritchi [Tina Fey] intrepid reporter.Right from the off it's obvious that Megamind isn't evil, just a person looking for acceptance. But when he actually manages to defeat his arch rival, what does he do next with his life? And when a new evil arises to threaten the city, who will save the day? This has gorgeous and eye catching animation which grabs the attention right from the off. Nothing being one hundred realistic but nothing is an out and out characature. Plus a great cast of characters, all superbly brought to life by an excellent voice cast. All of whom play everything just straight enough to avoid slipping into characature and make their characters three dimensional. Megamind and Minion do have a fun dynamic and Tina Fey, although stuck with a role that could easily be straightwoman to all the comedy going on around, manages to get humour in.All the comedy arises out of character rather than slapstick and needs of the plot. And all the characters develop nicely. As does the plot, with at least one good development you won't see coming. All this plus an excellent soundtrack makes for a superhero movie different from the norm and one that's a lot of fun with it. It is one of those films that will work on different levels for different ages, so it's great fun for all to watch.Do keep watching during the end credits, also.Languages and subtitles on the dvd are:Languages: English.Subtitles: English. The disc begins with trailers, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. And which turn up on the disc elsewhere anyhow.Extras are:A single deleted scene, with an introduction by one of the producers. It's worth a look.Filmmaker's commentary: A commentary from several of the production staff. But none of the cast.Meet the cast of Megamind: A nine minute long making of feature. With good contributions from cast and crew.Previews: Mostly the same trailers from the start of the disc.World of Dreamwork's animation: trailers and musical clips from four other movies from the same animation studio.Which has a slightly awkward main menu, but you will get the hang of it.

Super film about super villains!
I made a mistake by buying 'Despicable me', which got good reviews at the time, but this is the superior film. The humour is sharper, the characters and animation more engaging, and the pace of the film carries it along. Will Farrell is great as Megamind, and Tiny Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt all do excellent turns in this film.Despicable Me is effectively for young kids, but adults to teenagers will enjoy the humour in this film.My only gripe with this is that the extras were a little thin (a directors/producers commentary and ONE deleted scene). Another reviewer mentioned that the trailer hints at a different film, and there are definitely changes between the film and trailer - Brad Pitt plays and electric guitar in the film, not a Ukelele, and Megamind does not order a table for two in his normal guise......so I definitely think there were more outtakes and material which could have been added. Oh, I suppose to that extent I think the film could have been longer too, the Directors talk so much about 'more material' but 'not having enough time' - but I guess budgeting restrictions will do that to any film.

love love love it
I am not a lover of kids films and usualy have to be forced to endure them but within minutes of sitting to watch this little gem i was laughing out loud and giggling away with the kids as was my husband, our ten year old and 14 year old. i wanted to dislike it but loved it.best dvd ive bought in a long time and has been watched so many times i fear we may need to buy a new copy soon !its the age old story of evil v's good only this time evil is pretty damn bad at his job but in his defence is loveable and never gives up his fight for evil to reign supreme. mind you as we all know sometimes when we get what we wish for its not what we had hoped for !some classic lines which we all often use here.hilarious from start to finish.i urge you to give this film a chance and trust me you wont regret it

Megamind is Amazing!
Well I have to say I think Megamind is my favourite Dreamworks film. I think Will Ferrell was a brilliant choice to voice Megamind. After seeing it once I was hooked and would greet people I know with 'olo' and start mispronouncing words. I think the film itself is very funny, yet sweet. The soundtrack is awesome and Back in Black by AC\DC works so well in it. One of my favourite parts that I was completely un-expecting is towards the end... The `Presentation' scene with Guns `N' Roses' Welcome to the Jungle blaring, I was wowed by that completely.I would highly recommend this to everyone and anyone! You'll find yourself randomly quoting lines from it such as when I was making microwave people I told it it'll be exploding in the microwave of evil mwhahaha!

but I'm glad a friend told me about it as it was ...
This was a bit of a lucky find as I'd heard about it and not actually seen it, but I'm glad a friend told me about it as it was liked and watched by my daughter and I and we really liked it :) Even better since this one has blu ray versions and a DVD as well.. Very happy purchase. My daughter likes it as much as I do :)

Brilliant!
My 4 year old son loves this film and so do I. Even my husband loves the soundtrack. One of the funniest, cleverest animated films I've seen in a long time. Will Ferrell can annoy me in some of his films but he was excellent as the voice of Megamind. I love Tina Fey generally and Brad Pitt - well he's Brad Pitt? What's not to love. There are some fantastic lines for the adults while it still maintaining its innocence for the kids. Loved the mispronunciations. Took me ages to get the melancholy bit! Well worth a watch and well worth the money.

Hard of hearing? Beware
I won't review the movie itself as many others here have already done so. I'm writing a review as a hard of hearing person and also as the father of a daughter who is deaf.Unfortunately, Dreamworks have decided to NOT subtitle the 3D version of this film (The non-3D Blu-ray and the DVD version are subtitled). Subtitles are provided on the 3D version in Turkish, Polish and several other Eastern European languages but not in EnglishWhy?Dreamworks might argue that subtitles would spoil the 3D effect which is why they've chosen not to have them available but I've watched many 3D Blu-Rays with subtitles and I've never once found my vision of the 3D perspective affected. This potential argument of Dreamworks' also doesn't hold water when you remember they have provided subtitles in other languagesSo, not really a review from me but more of a warning to those who are deaf or hard of hearing and might be considering buying this movie

Funny, good for adults and children
Very funny film for children and adults. Don't want to spoil the story for those who haven't seen it but in the end good wins in the most unusual way. No bit that made my 8 & 4 year old daughters upset and they did laugh loudly in a few places. Well worth a watch. Funny to hear Brad Pitt's voice in a cartoon.

Witty and original
This is the most original take on the superhero idea since "The Incredibles". It has a positive message and a clever storyline: what happens if the baddie beats the superhero - what does the baddie do then? Its a great family cartoon, and understandably popular. There are a number of Superman references, and the Lois-Lane style heroine is a little too similar to the heroine in "Monsters vs Aliens" and "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", but this is a small gripe. The ending is not totally obvious either, which is feat for a kids film.

cute + funny movie :)
I definitely agree with other reviewers that you should not compare this movie to The Incredibles because it's not the Incredibles, but actually (and I'm sure people will think I have bad taste hahaa), I like this movie more than the Incredibles. It's funny and has some really sweet moments. I've seen the 'underdog rises' story so much that I usually find it boring but I was really rooting so much for Megamind! Really likeable characters and I would recommend :)

Except that it ends bad (but not really bad, like... good), t'was real funny. But it ends...Well it shouldn't end... like, that kind of bad. (bad should win, that would be good)

Mega Enjoyment
The plot has been much covered in other reviews already, apart from which I do not normally recommend a film by telling half of the story in advance.I am a big fan of CGI films (Pixar, DreamWorks etc.), but this one is by far my favourite. The story is good, the voice acting is great, but what most impresses me is the "acting" of the CG characters. The facial expressions are way ahead of other CG films I have seen, being matched so precisely to the voices; they can, of course, be cartoonish caricatures where required, but are also capable of the most subtle, fleeting nuances at other times.I almost immediately watched this for a second time, and found so much that I had overlooked on the first showing; a third viewing revealed yet more subtle touches.Even "Minion", the "cutesy" character, was brilliant; (I must admit to sometimes feeling my gorge rise to some of those in CG films).I must add that this film is more aimed at an adult audience than very young children. Indeed, the "Space Dad" reference to the (original?) Superman film will probably be lost to most viewers!
