LIFE CHANGING ! Wish I'd been aware of this years ago !
I normally do not write reviews but felt I needed to share my experience on this item. My fathers hearing has steadily deteriorated over the last few years. He had essentially given up hope of hearing again. He no longer enjoyed watching TV as he could not hear it. Same for music. Conversations were complicated, near impossible to have. For my family to communicate with him we had to essentially scream. This is obviously frustrating for the "yeller" and I'm sure for the one with trouble hearing.I recently went to get my own hearing checked and mentioned my fathers situation to my doctor. She recommended trying an amplifier or pocket talker. I read the reviews and decided to give this Williams device a try. I received it yesterday and tried it out myself. I was surprised that it actually worked but was still skeptical that it would benefit my father. I took the device over today, placed the headset over his ears and asked if he could hear me. The look on his face was like a kid on Christmas morning ! The price of this device is worth EVERY CENT ! My only regret is not being aware of this earlier.I'd have been perfectly fine with paying MUCH more for this if I'd known about it and thought it would actually work.I hope that my review will encourage others in the same situation to save themselves and their loved one a ton of frustration. The package contains everything that's needed. There are essentially two buttons, one for volume and one for frequency, which make it extremely easy to utilize. A longer cord is included to place the unit closer to the TV if needed. This is truly a life changing little piece of technology !

Good little unit!
Overall a great concept and generally works well. The headphones are nice and comfortable. The package clearly stated that a monoaural earbud was included in the package but one was not. I contacted the company and they sent me one no charge. The earbud is less conspicuous for my 93 year old mother when she goes out - she worries about things like this... Performance is good and the microphone extension is a good idea for the TV to reduce feedback. The tone control seems to work well and helps fine tune the tonal "sweet spot" with hearing loss. Overall, I'd say this thing works as well as or even better than true hearing aids as they don't have to be cleaned and the batteries are cheap. It is helpful to have the red power ON light as well to remind my mother to turn the unit off. Quality of construction is fairly rugged as the unit has been dropped a couple of times from waist height without ill effect. Batteries seem to last about 7-8 hours at mid volume (alkaline not rechargable). Overall, I'd purchase again. Only reason for 4 stars - neck lanyard is not adjustable and the cord is too thin. I replaced with a modified foam eyeglass strap and this works much better.

Great for my hearing impaired dad who reads lips, but can with masks
My dad's hearing issue (tinnitus) makes hearing aids not that effective for him. He was in the hospital and they gave him one of these to use because with all the masks he had no idea what was happening. The box can fit in your pocket and has a mic on it so people can either hold the box and speak in to the mic, or the mic can just pick up the sounds better. Somehow this works better for him than hearing aids, which can pick up a lot of ambient noise as well. It made a huge enough difference that we purchased this for him when he got home. The mic can be put on a cord and and reach out further too, so like at dinner it can be on the table near my mom so she can talk and not have to yell. Or it can be put closer to the TV speaker so the TV doesn't have to be blaring so loud. It's working well for him.

GREAT BUY FOR THOSE OF US "BLESSED" WITH NEAR-DEAFNESS!
The PKT D-1 H26 unit arrived about 4.5 days after ordering, as a "fill-in" for my Expensive HA's which are waiting for repair. On what is now my 2nd day of use, am very comfortable with PKT H26 unit ($114.95), and may not spend the bucks for further HA repair...Am able to nap with the behind the ear headphones, but now wish that I'd ordered the package that included dual earbuds as well, for just $5.00 more. Will contact Williams Sound and ask them for help with this, as the buds are $over $25.00 if ordered separately. Their customer reviews are quite encouraging...will keep you up with progress.BTW, the review of the use of PKT in medical situations was Wonderful to "hear" of, especially the mention of units available at a VA Med Ctr for use with appropriate patients. ALL ERs, as well as healthcare facilities should have devices like these, both Inpatient and Outpatient.

This is my first hearing device of any kind. My hearing has been getting progressively worse so I had to do something and I finally purchased the Williams Sound PKT D1 Pocketalker Ultra and am very pleased. I rarely spend a nickel without doing my homework and after reading the reviews I went with this. The item arrived promptly and was well packaged. I got excited and put in the batteries (provided) without looking at the instructions and was able to use it immediately. It easily fits in a pocket, can be worn around the neck with the provided lanyard or may be placed several feet away with the supplied extension. For me, the headphones are a bit tight and I'd prefer simple ear buds. The device seems very well engineered and designed. It's also has the look of quality. I give this a FIVE STAR RATING. The Pocketalker comes with a five year warranty. That's protection!

The idea behind the design is good, especially for someone that is forgetful
The idea behind the design is good, especially for someone that is forgetful, it's simple, put on head phones. The only thing we are having difficulty with is how it is carried. On the belt you hear the russling of clothes,in the top shirt pocket you hear yourself, screaming. And using the extended microphone is not pratical.
