Written a leftist
Written a leftist, but it gives an eye-opening look at this leftist who has done so much harm to the world.

Well written biography of a very complex man
I'm not a fan of biographies and seldom read them, but Mr. Kaufman has done an amazing job here. I was particularly engaged about stories of his upbringing and early adult age. What can I say? I love rags-to-riches stories.Anyway, having previously read a book from Soros himself, I was aware of the fact that this is an exceptional individual with what I consider a very fuzzy way of thinking that I can't really fully understand and who - while I consider many of his endeavors somewhat overreaching - has much to offer and has offered a lot.

Lengthy
This is a very informative book about understanding a person whose agenda is very dark.

If you want to understand Soros read this book!
If you have read any of Chernow's biographies, such as JP Morgan or Rockefeller, and love history, then read this book. This is not a book to learn how Soros invests. This is not a book that will teach you about fixed income, equities, derivatives, or how to hedge. If you want to sell short...go to the finance section of Amazon and buy a finance book. This is a brilliant biography about George Soros. You learn about his life, how he grew up, where he went to school. How his character was formed...the events that helped form his work ethic, his philosophy about world markets and peak into how he may think. You aren't going to get under the hood of his brain, but you will get to the core of what matters to this famous man and why. Brilliantly done!

love him or hate him this book is for you
love him or hate him, (probably the latter). he is a major influence in today's world, and while he may be aging, his son Alexander Soros is already in the public eye visibly taking the reigns and making moves well into the twenty first century. don't miss this one if you are interested.

broad overview, but mostly a puff biography
If you want a quick and easy broad overview of Soros then this is your book, but I would recommend Soros on Soros as being more useful at understanding the man. Also if you're a trader, don't even waste your time on this book. Get Alchemy of finance. This book is a fairly quick read but as you can imagine with a man like Soros, any authorised book is going to be mostly flattery. But it has it's amusing moments and some good pictures. I wouldn't pay more than $5 though for it. Then you can chuck it like a magazine when you're done.

GREAT BOOK
Great writing - great topic. I've always thought Soros was fascinating but didn't know much about him before reading the book. Even if you don't understand the world of investing, this biography is definitely worth reading.

A compelling and fascinating narrative of one of the world’s richest men
A fascinating and page turning narrative of a fascinating man who survived WW II in his homeland of Hungary and via first London then New York became one of the most successful money managers ever and in turn one of its greatest, most generous and far reaching philanthropists. A great read, thank you Michael Kaufman.

The human story of a speculator
His family background, and how he survived the war. His early career in London, where he was not particularly successful in several different jobs. And how his career took off as a speculator in New York, noticing small differences in price and profiting from it. Interesting to know.
