Good outdoor security camera
Having owned many different models of Foscam cameras, the HT2 is my first dedicated outdoor camera. Setup with the Foscam App and scanning the QR code was a breeze. Although I’m certain you could use the IP Camera Tool also, the App is definitely the way to go, especially if this is your first camera. Images can be viewed through the App itself or with compatible third party software. I have been using Blue Iris with all of my cameras for some time now, and it works very well. When first unpacking the camera, I discovered among the other accessories a small Phillips screwdriver (shown in the package contents list) as well as what appears to be some type of “cord cover” (NOT shown in this list). I can honestly say I have no idea what these items are used for (the cord cover will not accept the power cord), and there is no mention of them in the Quick Setup guide. The camera supports both 2.4 and 5GHz WIFI networks. I've experimented with several mounting locations and discovered that it really doesn't extend the WiFi transmission range as stated in Foscam's description. Daytime picture quality is crystal clear and the field-of-view is excellent. Nighttime picture quality is almost as good and the extended vision field is very good also. The 4X optical zoom is a nice touch as is the smooth 90 degree pan/tilt rotation and 350 degree horizontal field-of-view. The only problem with that much horizontal rotation is that all you will see going too far from center in either direction is the mounting location.Speaking of mounting location, three things in particular need to be considered. Because this camera is heavier than the indoor models; and, because the mounting bracket is permanently attached to the camera, choosing a location can be somewhat difficult. With other Foscam cameras which have separate mounting brackets, you can simply set them down to try them in different locations. When they go through their self-test upon start-up, they can rotate freely. However, with the HT2 permanently suspended from its bracket, you would either need to (temporarily) mount it (a template is included) or have someone hold it in order to try various locations. Otherwise, it would have difficulty rotating during the self-test. Secondly, because of the bracket configuration, the camera must be mounted on a vertical wall. It would be nice if Foscam could develop and offer some type of horizontal mounting option. Thirdly, unlike earlier Foscam models, the power cord and Ethernet jack are permanently “pigtailed” directly to the camera. This configuration was obviously designed for a “through the wall” connection. Otherwise, Foscam recommends using its junction box to waterproof the cables. While there are other ways to do this, and since many mounting locations would prohibit this type of installation, I would like to see them include the junction box in their packaging. There are other camera features which I have not yet accessed. You can read about these as well as other specifications online when researching this camera. However, based on my experiences with the HT2 so far, I am very pleased with its performance and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced outdoor security camera.

FosCam= Excellent support, Quality night/day camera, A must have for outdoor surveillance!!
I purchased my first indoor dome FosCam 5 years ago to be used as a nanny cam. It worked great! I no longer needed it as a nanny cam and wanted to use it elsewhere. I could not get it to work and figured it was too old. I contacted support and Mr. Frank Williams helped me get it back up and running! I was very surprised that this camera, after years of use, was still able to run. A plus for purchasing a new Foscam. I have a Nest camera that is the same age, that I also could not get back up and running. I had 3 different Nest support people try to help me. They were not successful and ended the support saying I needed to have a PC instead of a MAC??? On the other hand, Mr. Williams followed up with an email making sure all was well!!I have a Nest camera in our front yard we use for security, a Ring camera at our door and another Ring camera in our backyard. I recently put up an Owl box and decided to purchase another camera for the box. I felt the Ring camera lacked in quality of picture and playback, The Nest Camera is great but lacks in the ability to be moved remotely (While putting up our box, the Nest camera moved and we can only see a small portion of the box and cannot disturb the owls to move it back). After the great support I got with Mr. Frank Williams, and the fact that the FosCam can pan, tilt, and zoom I decided to get a FHD Wi-Fi PTZ Dome FosCam Camera. I ordered on a Monday, and received it on Wednesday…gotta love Amazon Prime!!The setup was very easy and straightforward. Only took me 15 minutes to unbox and set up. The picture quality and video are amazing, much better than our Ring camera. Since this camera is for outdoor, the casing and waterproof seem very well built. I also like the fact that their service plan allows for 24-hour continuous video and playback. I haven’t tried the service plan yet, but I am very much hoping it will be the same as Nest, if so, it will be my camera of choice!!Thank you Foscsm for making another quality camera to choose from that not only has continuous video playback but also has the ability to pan, tilt, and zoom remotely!!
