Fristaden Graduation Doctoral Tam, 6-Sided, Black Velvet Band, Gold Tassel, XS-XL

Although well-made, this 6-sided tam was unexpectedly small. The description on Amazon was incorrect in stating the range of adjustment was: SIZE: Adjustable XS-XL (Hat Sizes 19" - 25"), when actually the tam was too small for my husband's 23.7" head. The tam fit my own 20.5" head very well and was well proportioned, comfortable, and looked great. However, it was all wrong for my husband's larger head. With the adjustment tab fully released, the tam was extremely tight and uncomfortable, but also proportionally wrong for the head, more resembling a beanie or floppy velvet pancake than a traditional tam. We returned this 6-sided tam and ordered the 8-sided version as a satisfactory replacement. The 8-sided tam was 1" longer across the points and even larger across the flats, which was proportionally better suited to a largish head and had enough adjustment range for a comfortable fit (see 8-sided review). For smaller heads, this 6-sided tam is quite fine, but not suited for 23"+ heads.  Fristaden Graduation Doctoral Tam, 6-Sided, Black Velvet Band, Gold Tassel, XS-XL looking more like a floppy velvet pancake or a beanie.

This was the same doctoral tam that my school wanted me to purchase from the supplier but about 1/10th of the price! It looked exactly the same as those that spent 10x more on theirs from the supplier. The adjustable velcro was useful to get a good fit on my head. Overall pleased with the price and the fact that it looked exactly like the more expensive ones.

Nice quality, and not expensive. Other profs at commencement (stuck with the generic mortar boards) will be purchasing!

Ordered for my graduation & plan to use in annual graduation with the college I teach for. The tam is much higher quality than I anticipated. My college also purchased a tam for my use during campus commencement and I actually plan to use this one instead. Only hiccup is the velcro does stick out a little with adjustment, but easily hidden by the tam itself.

The tam was smaller than I expected. The velcro closure is black and blends in, but still looks a bit cheap when you have velcro on your regalia showing. The tam also lacked structure, and was overall on the small side. The band around the head was comfortable, but had no rigid material to help it keep form. I needed it in a pinch, but wouldn't probably use it again. I'll buy a higher quality one for future use.

Just as described on the website. Seemed to be of good quality. Easily adjustable to your head size. Looked great!

This is a good-looking and completely adequate tam, the price is terrific, and the customer service was absolutely top-notch. It makes no sense to spend 5X as much on an item that is only used once or twice (at most) a year!
