Pirastro Passione Cello String Set Medium

I've had these on my cello for a week now. The D string broke on installation, and a replacement had to be ordered. I was hoping to get a nice smooth baroque sound from them. One week later, and the G and C (gut core) continue to lose their tune by about a full step per 24 hours. During play, they'll lose tune roughly every 10 minutes. Tune it sharp with the pegs and with the fine tuners all the way out. 15 minutes later, I'm retuning them by 1/4 to 1/2 step, sometimes having to start over with the pegs. A friend who plays at a much higher level than I do played my cello (300+ years old) and hated the strings. The B on the A string and the E on the D string seem too far down the fingerboard for 1 in first position.My cello and I generally like Pirastro strings, especially for the A and D, but these Passiones are making me not want to practice because of the tuning issues. I have a set of the Obligato on order and am hoping they will be more what I'm looking for.

As a cellist, I have used many strings by many makers. I like a warm, mellow sound as I'm not playing in a concert hall that requires volume and projection. Too many strings are too metallic sounding and they do not measure up to the pieces I play. The Passione line is a wonderful addition to the choices of strings for cellists. The C and D strings are gut core and sound beautiful. And although the D and A are steel core, they are warm sounding as well. A very good instrument with very good strings makes a cellist want to play more because it sounds so much better. I recommend them highly.

I am an amateur Baroque musician. Replacing my strings with these makes me sound like a professional!One year later...I love playing on these strings. My Baroque playing is transformed by them. It was a great investment.

Love them, have a warm sound. Great harmonics and a mellower tone than any other strings I've played.
